Stay Sober

For us sober alcoholics, the holiday season can be a trying time of year. Our goal is, to always stay sober. It seems that the holiday season brings out the temptation to drink alcohol, everywhere.

Temptation To Drink Alcohol

The temptation to drink alcohol seems to be everywhere. Every time you look at a billboard, you see somebody with a drink of alcohol; and they always seem to have a smile on their face. When you walk by the local shops and taverns, every body seems to have a drink of alcohol and it seems like they're all having a good time. How on Earth can we function without a drink of alcohol? For the love of God; if everybody else is doing it, why can't I?

Reminder

Here's a reminder: you're an alcoholic. You can't drink alcohol, no matter what. Alcohol will kill you, don't do it.

1. Stay out of shady places; by shady places I mean anywhere there is other people consuming alcohol or where alcohol is constantly displayed.

2. Stay close to AA and sober people. It's important to remember that you can fun during the holiday season and that you can do it sober.

3. Don't be a fuddy-duddy or a party pooper.

4. Participate and socialize. If other sober people are in the holiday spirit, then those are the people that you need to hang out with. Catch on to what they have; happiness is contagious.

5. Take risks by stepping outside your comfort zone; as alcoholics, we're naturally drawn to isolate and internalize. Get out, and socialize!

6. Be open-minded. Be open to new ideas and new ways to experience the holiday season and make it full of bliss, the sober way.

7. Remember the past and how miserable it was. Make sure that you don't repeat it.

8. Go to AA meetings.

9. Go to AA holiday events, you just might have a good time and find the new experience of holiday bliss; sober.
