My predictions held up well as I correctly called the triumphs from the "The Social Network" as well the victory for independent production "The Kids Are All Right" in the Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical category.
Most of the live buzz centered around host Ricky Gervai's funny but sharp opening commentary which brought an on-stage rebuke from Robert Downey Jr. Gervai pulled a strange disappearing act about half-way through the broadcast and was more subdued when he returned, prompting plenty of twitter comments.
Natalie Portman won the Best Actress Golden Globe for her role as a dancer in "Black Swan," and Colin Firth took the Best Actor award for his role in "The King's Speech."
Paul Giamatti won the best actor in a musical or comedy for "Barney's Version," and Annette Bening was named best comic actress for "The Kids Are All Right." Christian Bale won the award for the best performance in a supporting role for "The Fighter"
"Toy Story 3" grabbed the Golden Globe for the Best Animated Film.
