The Solution to Avoid the Demise of Modern Civilization

Global conflict, global greed, and global neglect are leading us to the final decades of modern civilization. It sounds like all doom and gloom but the world leaders and the people of the world must be educated about the dire state of the environment. We have solutions but the entire world needs to work toward solving this crisis. President Ronald Reagan spoke about how the world would come together and forget our differences if we were invaded by aliens from outer space. That is precisely the reaction we need. Not because of invaders from another world, but from ourselves.

It doesn't take a Nostradamas to see what the future holds for our civilized world in just a few decades the current course of human kind. Just a little unbiased research will show what is in store for the planet. Let's face it, the planet earth will be here for millions of years still to come. The only question is will it be suitable for human life. The great irony is that the dinosaurs roamed the earth for some 250 million years. There is still conjecture as to exactly how their demise took place but, all can agree that they did not kill themselves off in a global suicide pact.

Just imagine if human kind, with our far greater brain capacity could accomplish in just one million years. There are singular individuals in the history of the world that pay tribute to the fact that what man can imagine, man can achieve. On the other hand we have seen evil committed by some that should be unimaginable to the reasoning mind. This dichotomy is what hampers our evolution. So then, where do we start in a drive to survive, to flourish and to raise human kind to the highest common denominator?

The first obstacle is the human capacity for conflict. We observe this conflict on every level of human interaction. Individuals are in conflict with individuals for such trivial reasons it should boggle the sane mind. Groups are in conflict with groups, be it racial, religious or territorial. Should we be complacent and assume that conflict is inevitable. That road will lead to the end of civilization as we know it. It is plainly obvious that if we can not transcend the propensity for conflict, modern civilization will not be in any position to solve the crises that the world faces.

If we examine the present conflicts that exist in the world today, the prospect of resolving those disputes in the next decade would appear bleak. Unfortunately, this is a period of time that is needed to confront our global environmental problems with any hope of success. But if this is not possible are the worlds leaders deluded enough to believe that the present expenditure of human resources and energy can coexist with a global plan to save civilization?

The answer is simple. First we must confront global conflict before we can expect to move forward and save humanity from the looming environmental disaster. The entire civilization must reach the point where all human beings can stand up and say, "We are all one".
