The Solution for BP's Oil Leak

Tony Daniels
Four words: Blow up the well.

Two months after the fact, BP engineers along with government experts are still struggling to stop the largest oil leak in American history with no end in sight.

Residents of the gulf coast have grown weary of BP's failed efforts to stop the oil leak which is devastating the environment and wreaking havoc on the local economy.

BP has pledged to use all resources at their disposal to stop the leak but those promises have yet to yield any concrete results.

Let's be clear, BP's main priority is to save their investment...the well.

BP has spent millions of dollars in materials and labor to build the Deep Water Horizon and they have no desire to start all over from scratch.

But that's exactly what they need to do.

Each day that the oil rig spews thousands of barrels of crude oil into the Gulf of Mexico is another day that irreversible damage is being done to the ecology and economy of that region.

Make no mistake about it, British Petroleum Oil Company's primary concern is the bottom line.

Although they may be somewhat concerned about the effects of the oil spill on the people of the gulf, they are more concerned with preserving their multi-million dollar investment.

The oil giant demonstrated where it's priorities were only days after the initial explosion when they seemed more concerned about paying dividends to their shareholders than they were about the devastation being inflicted upon the gulf coast.

It is time to stop playing with the problem.

There is no procedure available to deal with an underwater catastrophe like the one in the Gulf of Mexico. Everything that BP engineers and government experts are trying is experimental.

That is why none of the prior attempts to stop the leak were successful.

The residents of the gulf coast do not have time to wait to see if "trial and error" techniques will work.

The only viable solution is to blow up the well.

The old adage of "if you cut off the head the body will die" I believe applies here.

A controlled implosion of the well with strategically placed explosives set at the bottom where there should be no explosive gases present may be the only way to go at this point.

I am no expert in demolition but there are many who are and I believe they should be brought into the conversation of how to stop the leak in the gulf.

Continuing to use "hit and miss" procedures to try to stop the leak and save the well only imperils the gulf coast more.

Every day that the well continues to leak oil into the Gulf of Mexico it causes more damage to an area that has had more than it's share of tragedy.

In medicine it is common practice to amputate when all hope of saving a limb is gone.

It's time to invoke the mercy rule concerning the gulf coast.

Amputate. Cut off the snake's head.

The people have suffered enough.
