The Solution to Gallbladder Disease

Sarah Rachel
Gallbladder disease is very common in American because many Americans consume large amounts of fat and other processed foods. Foods that are loaded with salt, fat, grease and other junk contribute to internal congestion. When a person spends much of their life eating too many of the wrong types of fats, gallbladder disease can be the end result. There are also other risk factors associated with gallbladder disease such as being overweight, diabetes, high cholesterol, and family history. Gallstones are hardened cholesterol or calcium deposits.

What is the Gallbladder?

A gallbladder is about the size of a small fist or pear. The gallbladder tends to be very small, even in larger people. Gallstones can be as tiny as a grain of rice or as large as a silver dollar. The gallbladder is a tiny organ which works by storing bile to help digest foods, especially fasts and proteins. The bile works like soap when mixed with the food. It helps to coat the food and break down the properties found in food for the body. The gallbladder is connected to the liver and small intestine. Gallbladder disease can also be brought on after pregnancy due to hormone fluctuations.

The effects of gallbladder disease can be severe. A diseased gallbladder is unable to function properly because it is filled with tiny stones. Sometimes a large fatty meal can result in a stone getting stuck in the common bile duct. This causes the gallbladder to spasm out of control, resulting in extreme pain. This pain can last for a few minutes to hours. When the gallbladder is not working properly, the liver can become inflamed and congested.

Warning

Some people try to remove stones by doing a series of gallbladder cleanses. This may result in complications. Never do a cleanse unless you are being closely monitored by a Naturopathic doctor. In some cases surgery to remove the gallbladder is the only option for gallstones.

Prevention/Solution-Gallstones

Gallstones are usually the result of diet overload. Eating foods high in fat, salt and cholesterol too often cause result in the formation of gallstones. It is important to eat a diet loaded with fresh fruits, vegetables and lean protein sources. The old saying "you are what you eat" is true. Drink plenty of pure water and give your body the healthy food it craves and you can prevent gallbladder disease.

Get plenty of exercise to prevent your digestive system from getting backed up. Exercise helps all of your organs do work better, even the gallbladder.

See your doctor on a regular basis and make sure that your cholesterol levels are within normal range.
