The Sony EReader Pocket Edition Review

This Sony Ereader Has One of the Best Touch Screen Technologies

Mike Burnside
Sony has become a leader in the e-reader community and the updated PRS-350SC Reader Pocket Edition has solidified that status. With touch screen technology, this version of the Sony E-reader gives the user a new interface to enjoy their e-book libraries. We will be taking a look at the features of the Sony PRS-350SC Reader Pocket Edition and see why it maybe the better e-reader for some.

The Display on the Sony PRS-350SC Reader

The Sony PRS-350SC Reader is a compact e-reader that is about the size of a standard paperback book. This Sony Reader weighs in at 5.6 ounces and is easily held with one hand. Sony uses optical technology to allow your fingers to tap away on the 5-inch E-ink Pearl display. The display is much brighter and sharper than previous versions and contrast and clarity is crisp. The display needs very little touch to turn the pages or navigate the simple menus.

Options on the Sony PRS-350SC Reader

Below the display on the Sony PRS-350SC Reader, you will find several buttons that control not only zoom but also other options such as contrast and brightness. Changing the font size from XS to XXL is another option on this Sony Reader. A built in stylus that you will find in the upper right side of the unit is a nice option on this e-reader. You can charge the Sony Reader through a micro USB port and there are slots for both Memory Stick and SD Card storage.

Overall Impressions of the Sony PRS-350SC Reader

Unfortunately, the biggest glaring weakness to the Sony PRS-350SC Reader is the lack of support for 3G networking or Wi-Fi connectivity. For a few dollars more the Amazon DX Kindle offers both 3G and Wi-Fi options. What you do get with the Sony PRS-350SC Reader is a slick designed and highly portable e-reader. Among the 5-inch display from other makers such as Aluratek and Bookeen, The Sony PRS-350SC Reader is the better quality e-reader. If size is important to you as an e-book reader, the Sony PRS-350SC Reader leads their competitors with a quality display, touch technology, and superior options.
