Even though the Nintendo Wii has not changed in price since last year, their console is still $150 cheaper than the Sony PlayStation 3. The Xbox has dropped their retail price down to $199 per console. Even though Blu-ray smashed HD-DVD in the hi-def format battle, that did not help Sony one bit. The Sony PlayStation 3 retail price is at $399. The PlayStation 3 definitely has the best visual graphics of all three consoles. It also has the best core games of the three consoles. The added bonus that buyers get with the PlayStation is that it is also a Blu-ray DVD player. What hurt the Sony PlayStation 3 in 2008 is the fact that it is the most expensive console and even worse, Blu-ray DVD's are more expensive than regular DVD's.
Nintendo Wii may not have as good of graphics as the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox, but it does have more of a family oriented collection of games. The release of the Wii Fit was actually genius. People are always trying to get back in shape and Nintendo was smart enough to go after that audience. Some people bought the Nintendo Wii solely due to the release of the Wii Fit. Even before the release of the Wii Fit, the public's perception of the interactive play that the Wii has to offer, had people thinking that they could get a workout just by playing the Wii, and have some fun in the process.
Once Sony lowers the price of the PlayStation 3 again, they should move back into first-place among these consoles. As stated before their graphics are the best and buyers also get a Blu-ray DVD player within the console. Core games are the most popular games of all and no other console does core games like Sony does. The Xbox also offers some nice core game titles such as Gears of War 2 and Fable II. At this time both Nintendo and Microsoft are crushing Sony which is the normal king of consoles, as far as overall sales are concerned.

Post a CommentHad to come back and correct myself a bit. "including North America" should be "including all of North America". Didn't want it to seem as if I was referring to North America has a country. :P Great article.
Playstation 3 has NEVER reigned over Nintendo Wii or Xbox 360. It's doing better then Xbox 360 in Japan and a few other countries, but is totally lacking in sales in others, included North America. Sony's reign ended with Playstation 2, they won't be able to make a come back this console generation, so maybe the next. Nintendo is much too far ahead.
