The familiar, colorfully dressed dancers of yesteryear may be gone; but after a short hiatus, this year, the annual entertainment award show is scheduled to go on.

Top musical acts of this day and age will receive r & b, gospel, reggae, underground music and hip-hop awards during this year's Soul Train Music Awards which will air on Sunday, Nov. 29 at 9 p.m., on BET J, renamed Centric TV. The new channel holds rerun rights to the Soul Train TV show and awards program. The ceremonies were not held last year, but funny skits, the Soul Train Scramble board and dance lines are part of efforts to bring back the soul nostalgia.

Beyonce was nominated for several awards and according to insiders is the top vote getter. She, in addition to Keri Hilson, Jamie Foxx, Monica, Drake, Ne-Yo and Maxwell are among the top artists nominated to receive a Soul Train Music Award trophy which features a ceremonial mask from Africa.

The show titled "Centric Presents: 2009 Soul Train Awards" was taped earlier this month in Atlanta at the Georgia World Congress Center. The hosts for this year's show include Taraji P. Henson and Academy Award nominated Terrence Howard.

Janet Jackson has won the most Soul Train Awards. Her brother, Michael Jackson and singer Whitney Houston are the next top award winners. This year's Icon Award winners are Chaka Khan and Charlie Wilson of the Gap Band. The show features a Motown Records musical celebration.

The categories for the 2009 show include Best New Artist, Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Record of the Year (Songwriter Award), Best Collaboration and Best Gospel Performance Male, Female or Group.
