1. Port Campbell. Travel along Victoria's Great Ocean Road west of Melbourne to beautiful Port Campbell. This cozy inlet is nestled among the gentle rolling hills and his home to the cray fishing vessels whose daily haul provides you with the freshest seafood you could ask for. A comfortable Motel sits on the ridge at the top of town and provides a breathtaking view of the ocean. Seas can be calm and the waters clear, and within minutes a glorious thunderstorm appears from nowhere across the lookout point. It's 50 short steps to sit on the jetty in the evening to enjoy a bottle of wine and watch the waves.
2. Warrnambool. Fifty miles west of Port Campbell, Warrnambool is a larger rural center also situated on the "shipwreck coast". Here you are able to view the beautiful Humpback Whales and their calves basking in the cold, blue waters of the bay. Warrnambool has beautiful pine lined streets and is home to some of the best shopping facilities outside of Melbourne. Hotels are very well priced and start at around $AUD70 per night, some with breakfast included. Sample local cheeses and wine. This town is right in the middle of old dairy country and the selection of cheeses cannot be compared. Visit antique fairs and art galleries where loads of Australian memorabilia and unique souvenirs of historical significance are on sale cheap!
3. Adelaide. Stay in beautiful Adelaide, South Australia's picturesque capital city. Surrounded by some of the world's most famous wine producing region, Adelaide has a plethora of award winning wineries for you to enjoy. Wander through the Museums and explore the amazing world of Aboriginal culture and heritage. Visit the gigantic historical Churches and Cathedrals Adelaide is known for. Stroll down King William Plaza and North Terrace to view the commemorative plaques in honor of our European settlers. Attend a show presented by one of the many performing arts institutes or the State Opera. Adelaide is known for its beautiful parks and gardens. Why not take a paddle boat and float on the waterways and get a close look at some of Australia's most unusual flora and fauna? Hike the trails of Gorge Wildlife Park's 15 acres where you can meet and hand feed the kangaroos, possums, koalas and the adorable wombats. Adelaide has some wild nightlife if this is more your style. Hindley Street night clubs have to be seen to be believed. Dance the night away before relaxing over coffee at one of the exclusive lounges downtown.
