The House Theatre of Chicago is bringing the acclaimed original production of The Sparrow to the Adrienne Arsht Center April 7-May 1, 2011. The Sparrow is not your typical run of the mill Broadway story. Written by Nathan Allen, Jake Minton, and Chris Matthews, The Sparrow tells the story of Emily Book, a small-town girl who returns home ten years after a horrific accident that claimed the lives of the entire second grade class. The town must come to terms with her return and the memories she brings with her. Emily finds herself dealing with her own strong emotions of heartbreak, transformation, and mysterious powers. The Sparrow brings to the stage the teenage experience of angst, the desire to be popular, wrapped in superhuman ability. It has been comparably compared to Carrie, Wicked, and Mean Girls.

The Sparrow combines the best live theater has to offer. Compelling story-telling, music, original choreography, and Houdini-style tricks. It is a total package. Hedy Weiss of The Chicago Sun-Times wrote, "Words are really beside the point in "The Sparrow," the new show created and performed by the House Theatre. Dance is the true medium and message in this coming-of-age tale, which homes in on American small-town life and infuses it with a spark of the supernatural, a grounding of grief and a streak of the transgressive." And The New York Times commented The Sparrow is "page-turning storytelling."

Founded in 2001 by a group of friends The House Theatre of Chicago set forth a mission to explore ideas of the community and original storytelling, creating unique theatrical experiences. The House has garnered 17 Joseph Jefferson Awards and has been nominated 45 times. In 2007, The House became the first recipient of Broadway in Chicago's Emerging Theater Award. Do not miss this once in a lifetime experience to see The Sparrow.
