The Spirit of Christmas Lies Within the Heart

Thomas Griffin
The spirit of the season lies within the heart

Not in the gifts or presents, not in whole or part

Not in the lovely warmth of fires burning bright

Not in the hearty welcomes of family or friends alike

Not in the joyful music or exotic decorations

Not in the funny jokes or colloquial phrases

No, Christmas is because Jesus came to save

Those who turned from God in prideful work and shame

Praise Him who has conquered our sin and the grave

Praise Him who has victory with mighty power displayed

For this is why we rejoice in Christmas from the start

The spirit of the season lies within the heart
