The Splendor of Autumn

Amanda R. Dollak

Shorter are the days now

When summer's turned to fall.

It is raining colors

From the trees so tall:

With every gust of breeze

A leaf rainbow appears,

And with the end of each wheeze

A prism the ground wears.

Flocks are flying southward,

And stores are being stocked.

Gone's the song of the spring bird;

The summer's doors are locked.

The sky is turning gray,

And the wind's becoming cold.

Nature's changing every day

With some things bright and bold!

Jack Frost is 'round the corner,

So eager for his turn,

Awaiting to cover

Each great tree and lowly fern.
