After creating a lens (a Squidoo web page), interact with other Squidoo members of similar interests. This can be done by joining groups that are relevant to the topic of your lens. Groups showcase lenses of similar ideas and concepts. Joining groups also helps to expose your lens to a greater number of viewers. You will also find that members of groups take time to stop by fellow group members lenses. Be sure to do the same and participate actively in the groups you choose.
Another way to participate in the Squidoo community is to randomly explore other lenses within the Squidoo site. A simple signing of a guest book with any positive comments or insights can go a long way and are likely to be returned by visits to your lens. It is important to reciprocate this when someone comes randomly to your lens and leaves positive feedback. Take the time to visit a lens by that lensmaster and leave comments of your own.
The members forum at Squidoo, called SquidU, is not only a valuable resource for lens-making tips and ideas, it is also the center of the Squidoo community. Try to participate with relevant comments and topics. The SquidU forum is not there to "spam" your lenses in order to receive higher traffic.
The SquidU forum is also the place to go to find current updates and announcements regarding the Squidoo site. Recently, Squidoo updated their stats tracking software for each lens. This change was announced in the SquidU forum before it happened and was a wonderful resource for "how-to's" regarding the new stats program.
You will find the other participants in the Squidoo forum to be not only friendly, but also extremely helpful. As you learn, be sure to pass your knowledge on to other new members of Squidoo. Helping others is a main objective of Squidoo.
If you follow the philosophy of "give to receive", you will have no problem becoming an active, and valuable, member of the Squidoo community. Each quality lens that is created, along with each valuable Squidoo lensmaster that participates, helps to make Squidoo better and better. By becoming a valuable member of the Squidoo community, you not only increase your own exposure, but improve Squidoo for everyone.
