At the low price of $179.00, this model is much more affordable than many exercise machines, including other rowing machines. Rowing machines often cost over $500.00. Some rowing machines costs thousands.
Assembly:
Assembling the rowing machine was a bit of a workout in itself--at least it was for me--and you will need two adjustable wrenches and a screwdriver. The instructions are easy to follow but you should allow yourself plenty of time to put it together. It comes with all hardware but you will need to supply your own tools.
Features:
The rower comes with a digital monitor which will allow you to keep track of your speed, mileage, number of strokes, and the approximate number of calories burned. The rower comes with a small booklet which explains the display. An owner's manual is also available online.
This machine uses pistons to supply the tension to the oars, via adjustable hydraulic cylinders. This tension can be easily adjusted according to your fitness level.
The seat is padded and slides, aided by ball bearings, along the body of the machine to provide smooth movement.
The workout:
Sitting on the padded seat, grasp oar handles and gently pull back while at the same time straightening your legs with your knees bent. The motion is a sculling motion. Do as many repetitions as you can. Your back should be kept straight through the movements.
What I love about this rower:
It supplies a very good workout that can be done in the privacy of the home and costs much less than a gym membership. Although it is not a top of the line rower and may not feel as realistic as a rowing machine that uses water or air for resistance, the Stamina 1205 Precision Rowing Machine is perfect for anyone seeking a cardiovascular workout that tones the muscles-- including the lower back, the abdomen, the legs, and the arms. After the workout it is easy to store out of sight--it fits easily under most beds.
What I do not like about the rower:
The straps on the footrest are not as good as they could be. The straps work okay but you have to make certain they are securely fastened. However, the foot rests are otherwise well-designed. They are flexible, which adds to ease of movement and cuts down on ankle strain.
Final comments: I would recommend this rower to anyone who desires a strenuous but low impact workout. I advise anyone who is using a rower for the first time to be careful not to yank and pull on the oars--doing so can easily lead to a pulled muscle.
