Free or public Wi-Fi as you may call it is found now almost everywhere. Many places such as restaurants, diners, malls, and so on give free Wi-Fi. Not only though is free Wi-Fi available in places you can get it now on buses, planes, cars, and other forms of transportation. The global web has taken over everything in our everyday lives. It's as if people cannot live without the internet anymore it's a form of life, like the air we breathe. Hot spots as they are called can be found almost everywhere now for your internet surfing needs. Some are secured and some are not so secure which can lead to hacking attacks. In this article I will list some ways you can avoid being hacked and having Wi-Fi issues. These ideas should help you stay safe and keep the sharks out of the water for all your internet surfing fun.
The first and most important issue is logging in with your username and password. Not only can someone hack your password very easily but they can see you typing it over your shoulder. When entering passwords you should always be cautious and watch all around. Passwords should be something that someone cannot figure out very easily. The best way to create a password is to use various numbers and letters so that way it cannot be hacked so easily. This way your accounts should be safe at all times. Finally another way to keep your accounts safe is to change your passwords regularly this will keep from someone figuring it out so easily.
The next issue is to make sure you have a good antivirus spyware program. These programs are key to keeping your data safe when using Wi-Fi. They will block out hackers trying to get into your accounts and data. You will also want to always update your software so whenever someone tries a new virus you will be protected. Viruses are created each day and if your software is not stayed updated you could be hacked and loose all your info. Security is the best key you can use in helping keep your data safe when using Wi-Fi.
The next issue is making sure you are connected to the correct signal. Find out what the signal is at the location you're at before you do anything. Some hackers can create false signals so when you log in they can get all your information. So always make sure you're signed into a secure connection. You should also turn off automatic control on your laptop. This way if you turn off automatic control you can set it to manual and connect to the right signal yourself.
The next issue is downloading files. Make sure you do not download files which can be important if they are stolen. You should never download anything illegal or important in hotspot areas. Files that are secure and important should be left to download at home. Some files when downloaded take up a lot of bandwidth and can slow down connection speeds. This can lead to you being banned from the place your at or be thrown out. So be careful when downloading files make sure they are very small and nothing bad or important.
The final issue in this article towards Wi-Fi is if you're using credit or debit cards to pay for something. This should not just be used when using Wi-Fi it should be used always whenever using cards to pay. What you should look for is to make sure the site is secure by it being an https at the front of the website and then a small lock at the bottom of the web page. These two things will keep you safe and secure when using cards to purchase something online. If you do not see any of these things do not continue your purchase on that website close it out right away. This is very important so your account does not get hacked and you could lose all your money.
These steps are not the only steps to helping you stay safe when using Wi-Fi but they are some very important steps. Hackers come up with new ways each day to get your information so follow these steps and many more to stay safe and not get hacked.Sources - Author/Artist - I did not have to cite from anywhere online.
