The Stereotypical Nigerian College Undergrad

Chapati
Every institution has its typical stereotypes and Nigerian colleges are no exception. Every Nigerian undergraduate falls into one or more of these categories:

Efiko (Nerd)

Every campus is never complete without the school efiko. An efiko is a student that spends most of his or her time reading and trying to maintain his/her straight A reputation. They have no time to participate in social activities and sports. They are also known to be annoyingly boring and some of them are known to go on for days without having a shower! Many efikos are also quite religious and would only participate in church or fellowship activities. Many other students only befriend efikos because they need someone to help them with their class assignments and give them free tutorials too. An efiko can be identified by his or her very conservative outfits and sometimes gentle disposition.

Owambe (Party Boy/Girl)

Owambe literally means- It is there! Many students fall under this category, because the majority of them feel that the only chance they'll ever get to party in their lives would be now that they are still young and have all their friends in the same vicinity. Owambe students never spend their weekends within the school premises because they are always away (partying!). They can be recognized by the flashy clothes they wear and their poor grades, most of them often get kicked out of school because of their appalling grades.

The Strong Man

Being called a strong man simply means you are a cultist. The strong men are the most feared guys on campus; you dare not cross them or else you could get beaten-up or worse still, you could get shot! Many cultists are sometimes rude and mean to their fellow students; they enjoy being feared and respected by all. They are a secretive and elitist group; they often engage in fights with other rival cult groups. They can be identified by their high and mighty attitude.

The Activist

The activist is a student that fights for the interest of other students at his or her own expense. The activist is a brilliant student who enjoys the respect of other students because he or she is never afraid to face the school management and demand for certain rights and privileges.

Popular Jingo

A popular jingo is a student who is well-liked by most students. Popular jingoes are often very loud and friendly people and many people admire and enjoy their company. They are often the topic of the school gossip magazines and the object of envy and hatred. They are recognized by their often unique appearance and big personality.

Aro (Class Clown)

An aro is the class clown who will stop at nothing to make everyone reel with laughter. They are never taken seriously because no one knows when they are actually being serious. They are often rejected by girls and any girl who is bold enough to date them is considered a nut-job too.

Olurun Ja Gbadun

This is a students who does not care about any other activity besides getting a good or average grade and graduating (quickly) from school. He or she does not want to be noticed by anyone and tries hard to avoid social activities by all means.
