Spring and summer are here and that means it is grilling season. Steven Raichlen is the equivalent of Emeril Lagaase or Bobby Flay when it comes to the grilling world. So you must get his Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Cast Iron Tuscan Grill. The Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Cast Iron Tuscan Grill is great because it can be used to supplement the grill you already have, or used for grilling when you make a camp fire on your camping trips. All grillmasters know Steven Raichlen's name, and they know his products are high quality. I was highly impressed with the quality of the Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Cast Iron Tuscan Grill, except for one minor issue I'll discuss at the end of the article.

The Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Cast Iron Tuscan Grill has a 14 inch by 14 inch cooking surface, this gives you a total of 196 inches of cooking surface on the grill which is sufficient for cooking several steaks at once. The fact that it is a cast iron grill makes this a truly high quality grill and why it can be used as a supplement to your current grill. Do you want those nice grill marks on your steak, but your current grill just doesn't do it properly? Well don't worry, just place the Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Cast Iron Tuscan Grill on top of your current grill grate. Make sure you put some vegetable oil on the cast iron grates of the Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Cast Iron Tuscan Grill and the cast iron along with the oil will combine to make beautiful grill marks on your steak.

The Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Cast Iron Tuscan Grill is portable as well, because it can be used as a stand along grilling surface over an open fire. It has legs that attach that allow you to set this grilling surface up over your open fire. This is where I get to my one complaint though. The legs do not attach perfectly to the grilling surface of the Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Cast Iron Tuscan Grill, and are a little uneven. You can compensate for this in a fire pit by adding a little sand under one or two legs to make them even. Still, it is a little disappointing to find a Steven Raichlen product that is known for quality to have this flaw.

One final tip, and this is not included in the directions. This is a cast iron grill surface. This means it must be seasoned before using or you will get a very odd taste added to your meat. To season the grilling surface you need to coat it in vegetable oil and place it on a baking rack in your oven at 350 degrees. Let it cook for four to six hours to season it and give the grates a good seal. This will eliminate the issue anyone has with odd tastes from cooking on a cast iron surface. All cast iron cooking surfaces should be seasoned before use, and it appears the manufacturer assumes you know this when you purchase the Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Cast Iron Tuscan Grill.

At just over $30, the Steven Raichlen Best of Barbecue Cast Iron Tuscan Grill is a great tool for anyone with an inferior cooking surface on their grill at home, or someone that wants to grill over an open fire while camping.

  • This is portable and has legs that attach but they need some adjustment as they are uneven.
  • The grilling surface is cast iron which is a great heat conductor.
  • Combining the cast iron surface with a coating of vegetable oil will produce nice grill marks.
Do not forget to season the grate or you will be very dissapointed with your food you grill on this product, or any cast iron surface.
