The Stone Girl Prays

Stained glass shatters beneath bare feet, driving into dirty flesh.
The stone girl prays on bleeding knees while flames and shadow mesh.
Lurching umbers with thick brogues usher me away,
but I tip my shoulder after her and watch her as she prays.
Truth glints at the corner of her mouth, trickles down,
but Brother tears her heart away, just to stop the sound.
So silenced is the angel and righteous is the blade.
Helpless is our struggle and strengthened his tirade.
I fight against the breathing wall, their blood beneath my nails,
but her body is already cold, faith already failed.
My sight blurred by uncommon rage, I reach into the sky,
completely consumed by the urge to kill... or die...
