The Strangers: Movie is Extremely Suspenseful, but Ruined by a Weak Story

With most of the horror movies today constantly being focused on a non-stop blood-bath, it's nice to see a movie break that mold and still be suspensful. The Strangers does a great job of showing a movie can still be scary and suspensful without all the gore. Instead, the movie uses all of the traditional ways of scaring you. Loud noises, eerie lighting, situations, all of these are abound and used in full. For some horror fans, it might not be enough, but for most it will be a thrill ride. As for the actors in the movie, Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman being the starring roles, they all do a good job. It is a pity there isn't more dialogue in the movie as I think they could have done a splendid job. For the scenes they do, they do well. Liv Tyler can make herself seem like a pretty horrified young lady, and Speedman does a pretty noteable job as well.

The only thing holding the actors back in this movie, is the story sadly. Some movies have bad stories and some have good ones. This movie has none at all to be spoken of hardly. All that I could really digest from the movie is that Liv and Speedman are having some hard times now that his proposal to her was a failure. Then, for some reason nobody knows, a family of serial killers begins attacking them constantly trying to kill them. That's it. You never find out who the family is, or why they are doing what they're doing. As to not spoil the movie, I will just say is has one of the worst endings I have ever seen. The movie feels like a top notch controlled horror movie, but the story prevents it from ever becoming that. So if your just looking for a couple of good thrills and scares, The Strangers would be a great rental, just don't expect to be left with anything from it.

My Score: 3/5
