The Strangest Boxing Nicknames Ever

Erin Rivera
While in any type of sport you will find players with strange nicknames boxing has more than its fair share. Boxers such as "Big" George Foreman have nothing on these boxers! Here is a look at the top five worst boxing names in all history.

1. The first on our list is none other than Lance Whitaker who decided to choose "Goofi" for his new nickname. While he originally started out with the nickname "Mount" which suited him with his large size and his sheer massive frame, he then legally went about trying to change his name to the strange "Goofi".

2. Next on our list comes from tough guy Chuck Wepner. In between boxing fights Wepner was a liquor salesman. And while he was tough enough to inspire the character "Rocky" for Sylvester Stallone he fell short when he picked the nickname "The Bayonne Bleeder" due to his frequently getting cut.

3. Donnell Holmes is number three on our list with the odd choice of nicknames "The Real Touch of Sleep". Besides being incredibly long and awkward, this nickname did not fit this fighter or the way he boxed. With little success he was actually known for boring boxing fans and did not last very long in this competitive industry.

4. Joel Casamayor picked one of the strangest nicknames in boxing history. Known as "El Cepillo" this nickname left fans a bit curious as to why he chose a nickname that when translated into English means "The Brush or the "The Comb". Jole Casamayor explained that he picked the name due to his great ability to "brush off" his competition. Unfortunately this was not the case and this nickname did nothing to help his career.

5. Clifford Etienne really struck out by choosing "The Black Rhino" as his nickname. Besides describing an animal that does not naturally exist this nickname was considered racially crude and actually turned fans off. Clifford Etienne not only lost out on boxing but actually went on and committed robbery leading to a sad ending to what could have been a legend.
