Fans of Pete Seeger and fans of the small farmer rejoice. The Strolling of the Heifers will present the legendary folk singer, Pete Seeger, performing a benefit concert in Brattleboro, Vermont on September 13th. The Pete Seeger concert performance will benefit small farmers in the northeast United States. Performing with Pete Seeger will be his grandson Tao Rodriguez-Seeger and jazz musician Guy Davis.

Pete Seeger Concert Details

The New England Farm Benefit Concert will raise money to fund microloans for farmers who are having trouble getting the small seasonal loans required to fund their farming activities or equipment purchases until the harvest can be turned into cash. Pete Seeger, Tao Rodriguez-Seeger, and blues musician Guy Davis will join forces and take the stage at the Latchis Theater in Brattleboro, VT at 7:00 PM. The Latchis Theater will open its doors at 6:15. Tickets can be purchased at brattleborotix.com.

Pete Seeger's Influence

Pete Seeger is one of the most influential folk singers of the modern era. Such classic songs as "If I had a Hammer" and "Turn, Turn, Turn" are universally recognized as classics in the genre. Pete Seeger is almost equally renowned for his activism. He was famously targeted by the McCarthy Hearings in the 1950s for pro-communist sympathies. With this performance, Pete Seeger will be focusing attention on the plight of the small farmer in America.

The Strolling of the Heifers

The benefit concert is being co-produced by a group that goes by the unlikely name of The Strolling of The Heifers. The group draws its name from the annual event of the same name in which actual heifers actually stroll through the downtown streets of Brattleboro, Vermont. Believe me, if you ever get a chance to visit Brattleboro, do it when they are holding the Annual Strolling of the Heifers event. While the Strolling of the Heifers in Brattleboro is a little more sedate than the Running of the Bulls in Pamplona, it is still a sight you won't want to miss. The Strolling of the Heifers is usually a 3 day event held in Brattleboro each year in early June.

Mark Your Calendars

Pete Seeger is 89 years old and still going strong. Although Seeger doesn't perform as often as he once did, his performances continue to impress us with his music, his wisdom, and his charisma. An intimate venue like the Latchis Theater in bucolic Brattleboro, Vermont should make the concert even more memorable for fans both new and old. Mark your calendars now, September 13th for the Pete Seeger Concert, and early June for The Strolling of The Heifers.

Pete Seeger is a favorite of mine from the old Bohemian days (yes I was from the beatnik generation). Used to listen to his music at many Old Greenwhich Village coffee houses. Great article.
