The Strong Man

Jill Davidson

He was a strong man but he fell to his knees,

For the weight was just too much to bear.

The trials of life had burdened him down

And trapped him in gloom and despair.

The dreams of his youth had fallen away,

Cast by the side of the road;

Bitter resentment had filled up his heart.

He could no longer carry the load.

So he fell to his knees and lifted his eyes

To the cross where our Savior had died.

"I just can't go on! I'm hopeless and lost!"

As he knelt there, he felt his soul cry.

He let go of his anger, resentment, and pain;

There was just nothing else he could do.

Our Lord lifted him up, and told the strong man

"I will carry those burdens for you.

Leave them here at my feet, I'll pick up that pack.

I'll do it; have faith that I can.

For I've already paid the price that was due

To shoulder the burdens of man.

I'll be here beside you each step of the way,

As together we travel this road."

One man can't do it, it often takes two

To carry a burdensome load.
