The Style Review: Men's Vintage Leather Briefcases

A Professional and Stylish Addition to Any Man's Business Attire

The traditional leather briefcase is a professional and stylish addition to any man's business attire ensemble. It is the most attractive and efficient way to keep your documents safe and store you business necessities. The classic men's briefcase has several advantages over more modern bags such as a messenger bag, backpack or sling bag. The original purpose for the leather case was organization and security, which the other types of bags typically lack.

Selecting the right case for yourself takes an investment of a little time and money, but in the long run you will see the results of having a more polished and professional look. You should begin by selecting a type of leather. The style and shape should also be a factor in your decision. Be sure to choose a case that meets your specific business needs. There are several different styles of vintage briefcases with their own unique functionality.

Caring for your leather briefcase is very similar to caring for a leather jacket or a pair of fine leather shoes. Leather is much like human skin; it is generally weather resistant, but also porous and dries out easily.
Here are a few tips to care for your vintage leather briefcase.

If your case gets wet, either from rain or a spill, blot it dry with a soft towel. Do not use any harsh home cleaning products on genuine leather. Many retailers offer specialized leather cleaner for occasional maintenance. Be sure to clean the parts of the case that come in contact with your hands most often, such as the handles and the latches. Oil from the skin can accumulate and wear away the finish of the leather. Clean the inside of the case every few months, especially if it is a suede finish. Do not soak the interior, but brush the fabric with a damp cloth.

Practice preventative care for your briefcase. Do not expose the case to excessive direct sunlight or prolonged exposure to heat or cold. Avoid carrying your case near other objects that may scratch or tear the exterior of the case. Do not over-fill your case with documents and materials as it may cause the latches to fail or the straps or hinges to wear prematurely. By taking these steps, you may enjoy the look and feel of your vintage men's leather briefcase for years to come.
