The Sugar Busters Diet: How this Diet can Work for You

Moira Riley
The Sugar Busters Diet is a diet plan authored by H. Leighton Steward, Morrison Md Bethea and Luis Md Balart in the book Sugar Busters; How to Sugar to Trim Fat. The basic idea of this diet is that by cutting the sugars in your diet you will loose weight. Now, unlike other popular low carbohydrate diets that we have see in the past, the sugar busters diet does not seek to completely restrict the intake of carbohydrates. The sugar busters diet plan does however restrict the intake of high glycemic carbohydrates such as white breads and fruits that are higher in sugar such as bananas and pineapples. Instead of eliminating carbohydrates the sugar busters diet recommends replacing those carbohydrates with ones that have a lower glycemic index by eating things that consist of whole grains and less sugary vegetables and fruits and items that do not contain additional sugar. The idea that we should be switching to diets that contain these items in not a new one. The sugar busters diet also rounds out its diet by recommending lean carbohydrates and unsaturated fats.

Many people feel that the sugar busters diet is less restrictive than other diets. With no counting and no extreme restriction or phases to keep track of, this is very true. However, in order for the sugar busters diet to be successful the dieter will still need to be mindful of their own food choices, at least at first. I feel that this diet has potential to be successful for those who are willing to be mindful of their diets. Since this diet seems to, at least on the surface, follow the type of sound advice a doctor would give you, this diet will be successful if the dieter is able to change their diet for the long run.

The key to this diet is to keep track of the guidelines and find what works best for you. If you are able to find ways to truly change your eating habits then the weight loss experienced on this diet will have a lasting effect. It is even possible that it will have a lasting health effect on your lifestyle. The key to maintaining the sugar busters diet is to find ways to enjoy new things or things that you love in healthier or more moderate ways. However, if you are using the sugar busters diet to simply shed a couple of pounds and not to really change your life style then I wouldn't be surprised if you just gained it all back over time. This is the case with all diets. The thing to remember though is that the sugar busters diet is something that would probably be a realistic lifestyle change where as diets that strictly restrict your food choices just make you feel deprived and resentful.
