The Summer that Was

Ricky Doan
Oh the joy when it finally came,
Summer this season is called.
Long the wait and cold the days,
Since the last leaf of Fall.

The first mowing of grass,
The flowers exploding in bloom,
Oh these days of Summer,
Remove all the Winter's gloom.

My children playing sports,
The wind blown dust,
Swimming in cool water
From sunrise til dusk.

Burgers on the grill,
Hotdogs on buns.
Watermelon seeds,
And hours of fun.

Lying in the grass,
Watching clouds float lazily by.
Hearing my children's laughter,
As the kites fly high.

Doing nothing or something,
Only just because.
These were the glorious days,
Of the Summer that was.

I love this, I grill almost everyday. This is a great way to do some of things that my famly grew up doing. Thanks, enjoyed.
