The Summer Wedding that Almost Went on Without Me

Shirley Norling
It was 3 A.M. and I was stuck in the Baltimore airport with all the flights canceled to Portland, Maine because of a summer storm. What should have been a 3 hour flight to my niece's wedding in Maine, now had turned into a 17 hour ordeal, and I was only halfway there. To make things worse, the airline I was traveling on had no available seats left on their flights to my destination for the next 2 days.

I guess I wouldn't have to worry anymore about making it to this wedding. It would be over before I ever got there. I walked around the airport trying to decide if I should wait until morning and just go back to Minneapolis, when another weary traveler on that same flight made a suggestion that we try and book a flight on another airline that would take us a within a couple hours of our original destination.

24 hours after leaving home, I finally arrived at my destination. Although it cost me one nights hotel reservation and the purchase of another airline ticket, I made the wedding.
