The Sun's Return

A Winter Solstice Poem

Adam Hall
A glow upon the western sky and smoke upon the air.
Soft drum beats heard from afar, wafts of harvest faire.
The darkness has just settled in, seems early, that's for sure.
While crisp cold air screams right by me. There's so much to endure.
"O sun, will you show your face or are you gone for good?
Could you come but for a while to light up like you should?"
And by request the sun came out to shine the next cold morn.
He hung above longer that day, but from the sky was torn.
Each new day grew longer still and night seemed shorter, too.
For to the world the sun came back as if he always knew.
