This game could be put on almost any timeline in the Super Mario series so I decided that it would fit best after Partners in Time. As readers you decided where it would fit.

Luigi's Mansion (GameCube)

- While Mario and Luigi are on their way home to the Mushroom Kingdom, they managed to stop at a nearby house to spend the night. This game mark the first in-game roles of all the seven koopalings and was also the first game to introduce payers to multiple power-ups other than the power mushroom, fire flower, and starman. It may have taken place after Superstar Saga because Bowser had fixed his destroys airship and managed to make multiple ones for this game.

Remembering from their youth that it was the Yoshis that once saved them from Kamek (Bowser's adopted father), the Mario Bros. then agreed to help Yoshi freed his friends from Bowser and his seven koopalings while enjoying every part of their vacation and rescuing Princess Peach in the process.

Why is this the twenty-fourth in the series?
It marks the return of Yoshi and the Yoshi clan; however Mario and Luigi are all grown up now so it must had took place after all the above. This is the first game in the series to feature Bowser as a villain outside the Mushroom Kingdom. Yes, he was in Superstar Saga but in that game he was a good guy unlike here where he is back to his old bad self again.

New! Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo DS)

- After returning from their vacation, the Mario Bros. and Peach returns to the Mushroom Kingdom. Then while finding his way to the Mushroom Kingdom on invite by Toad, Yoshi was tired and felt asleep on the roof, but was awaken by lakitu and welcome him to the Mushroom Kingdom then was met by Toad. Toad then informs Yoshi of where he could go to find the remaining group and how to help save the princess from Bowser.

Why is this the twenty-sixth in the series?
This game is the first Mario game to be in full 3D, it also took place after New! Super Mario Bros. because of the appearance of Wario and Yoshi who the Mario Bros. met before this game took place and also the first inclusion of collecting stars which would continue on the sequels to come.

Why is this the twenty-ninth in the series?
This game may have took place anytime in the Super Mario timeline; however, as a storybook fairytale itself, it could be put anywhere on the chronology of the Super Mario series. This game may also serve as a spin-off story to the main ones as well.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (GameCube)

- The second chapter of the storybook fairytale the citizen of the Mushroom Kingdom told their children while Mario is away on his adventure.

Why is this the thirtieth in the series?
Nothing too major, it took place after the first game so it best fit after it as well.

Super Paper Mario (Wii)

- The third chapter of the storybook fairytale the citizen of the Mushroom Kingdom told their children while Mario is still away on his adventure.

Why is this the thirty-first in the series?
Same as the first two, because it took place after both of them.

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (Super NES)

- After Mario rescue Peach from Bowser through eight galaxies. The two then return to the Mushroom Kingdom in one piece. After that Bowser had retreat back to his open hilltop castle. After recovering from his defeat Bowser strikes back by quickly nabbing Peach but not until Mario quickly follows them and save Peach once again. After beating Bowser and saving Peach; however, something terrible had happen. When Mario and Bowser was battling across galaxies from their previous chapter, the Smithy Gangs managed to break apart the Star Road and prevent wishes to ever come true; thus, ending all hopes. Now the guardian of the Star Road known as Geno then make his presence at last as a doll (who Mario once gave to a little boy in Superstar Saga long ago). Geno's mission was to seek the help of Mario and collect all seven pieces of the stars and glued them each back on the Star Road so that hopes could occur and wishes could be made. While journeying to stop the Smithy Gangs and their minions, Mario and his companion encounter a strange creature from a different fantasy dimension named Culex who was thought to be brought to haunt the land by Smithy; however, upon defeat he revealed that he simply came to the Mushroom World by mistake and said that Mario and his companion are strong, then immediately return to his own world. After seeking all their companions, collecting all the seven stars, and returning each to the Star Road and defeating the Smithy Gangs and sending them back to the galaxy from which they came, the long lasted legacy of Mario had finally concluded...or did it not?

Why is this the final in the series?
This game features the debut of the Smithy Gangs, the re-debut of Geno from Superstar Saga, it also may have took place after Super Mario World and Super Mario Galaxy because of the involvement regarding the Star Road, the villains from another galaxy, and also Bowser riding his clown copter which first debut in Super Mario World. The hilltop in which Bowser resided in may have being from the same hilltop his castle once stood in Super Mario Galaxy.

  • Almost all of the Mario games doesn't had any storylines or plot a.k.a. Super Mario Bros.
  • Most of Mario's objective in the storyline had always invlolve Princess Peach and Bowser.
  • Mario had always team with his brother Luigi the most.
Since Nintendo hadn't officially given the Super Mario series a chronological timeline yet, making one up is quite difficult and sometime make no sense.

You obviously never played Super Mario Sunshine, since Bowser was THE FINAL BOSS of that game. And Sunshine had to come before NSMB, seeing as it was the game that introduced Bowser Jr. And Mario was much suprised by it. Yadayada.

    You fail, sir.

Thanks for all the legit comments, I knew not all of them are correct but at least it something to have fun with.

Even some fans and critics had a hard time making putting together a Legend of Zelda timeline. The reason I did a Super Mario timeline was that no else did and I knew it flop big time.

  • Finally1/10/2010

Your interpretation of the events in Partners in Time is completely wrong, Cackletta wasn't even in that game.

  • Also1/10/2010

Professor Egad appears in Super Star Saga and is familiar with Mario and Luigi, meaning Super Star Saga couldn't of occurred before Luigi's Mansion

  • Good try but it's wrong1/10/2010

You have (at the very least) Super Star Saga and it's sequel out of order. Near the beginning of the game Toad says "I just hope your long vacation hasn't left you out of shape" Suggesting the events of the game take place directly after Super Mario Sunshine.

    This is great. love it.
