The Super Powers of the Dabral Baba of Ujjain in Central India

Ujjain is about 55 KM from Indore in Central India. During my last visit to Indore I decided to visit Ujjain which is supposed to be one of the 7 holy cities in Hinduism. My purpose was basically to visit a saint, often referred to as Dabral baba who is a follower of Kaal Bhairon. A word about Kaal Bhairon may not be out of place here. Kaal Bhairon is a manifestation of one form of Shiva the Hindu God. Shiva himself has eight manifestations and Kaal Bhairon is one of them.Kaal Bhairon is the fierce representation of Shiva and concerns death and inevitability.

The temple of Kaal Bhairon is on the outskirts of Ujjain and worshipers pay their homage to the god by donating a bottle of wine or hard liquor to the deity. The bottle is opened by the priest and the liquor poured in a flat plate and held to the lips of the deity. Lo and behold the liquor in the plate slowly disappears into the mouth of the deity. This by itself is a minor miracle.

Kaal Bhairon is one of the important Gods in the Pantheon of Hindu thought and is generally depicted with earrings, bracelets and anklets in the form of serpents and snakes. A tiger skin covers his body and human bones are part of his apron. Kaal Bhairava travels on the back of a dog which is supposed to be his divine vahana (vehicle). But my purpose was not to pray at this temple but to meet a saint (baba) named Dabral who after years of prayer and penance to the God Bhairon had developed ESP powers and fore told the future.

The drive to Indore is smooth and the road quite nice except that it's a bit narrow and only single lane traffic can be permitted at some places. On the way there are a number of stalls selling tea, cold drinks and snacks. The popular snack is 'Poha' a dish made from flakes of rice.

We drove straight to the residence of the baba who has visiting timings from 3to 5 pm.There was a small queue and dutifully, I also joined the line waiting to meet the baba. My turn soon came and I entered the chamber of the Baba.Its a small room with the baba sitting on the floor with a small desk covering his feet. He is fairly old and I could guess his age to be about 70. The baba held my hands and felt my finger tips. No questions were asked and no conversation took place. The Baba soon in a soft voice detailed some personal information like my name and other details. He also gave some future forcasts.All in all I was impressed and there is no doubt that the baba had some supernatural power to be able to read my mind.

The visit was soon over and the baba with folded hands looked at me, indicating the meeting was over. I was wonder struck at the supernatural and I came away impressed by the power of the Baba. How could he tell my name and other details about me ?

I did however carry out a bit of research on the Baba and umpteen people told me that they followed the baba for long years. The baba was an employee of the University of Ujjain when he developed the powers that he attributes to Kaal Bhairav.I would recommend a visit to Ujjain and a darshan of the Dabral Baba for any traveler who comes to this part of India.
