The Suri Cruise Obsession (Tom and Katie Too)

Is Our Obsession with Celebrities Getting Out of Hand?

Jameson
Watching the news the other day, I heard a shocking statement from a reporter. He claimed that the first photo of Suri Cruise, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes long-awaited infant, could go for as much as five million dollars. Now, I was shocked when I heard that the first photo of Shiloh, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's baby, could well go for one to two million dollars. Is it just me, or is there something wrong with this picture?

We have become so enthralled with the famous that tabloids are willing to dish out millions in order to get a picture of a baby on their front cover? First of all, a baby is a baby, whether it was born to the farming family of Iowa or a celebrity picture-perfect family (if there is such a thing, I'm not really sure). Five million dollars is a lot to dish out, especially considering that I have been in magazine stores and supermarkets hundreds of times, and I think that I have seen maybe one person actually pick up a tabloid and buy it. If any company thinks they will profit from sticking a photo of a baby on the cover of their tabloid, I believe them to be gravely mistaken. People will merely walk buy and think 'Oh, so that's what Tom's baby looks like.' Once you've seen the photo, you've seen the photo. Just the same as if you've seen a baby, you've seen them all. Yes, babies all look the same.

While five million bucks might not seem like a lot to a magazine coorporation, maybe they should take a step back and think about how ridiculous they are behaving. Considering that some children around the world can be fed on two dollars a day, five million dollars could feed almost 7,000 children for an entire year. So, here's the tradeoff, on one hand you have saving the lives of thousands of children, and on the other hand, you got it! Having a baby's photo taken!

I have the upmost respect for Tom Cruise's and Katie Holmes' privacy, and even more for their daughter. I respect even more the fact that they have not stooped so low as to sell a picture of their child to the press. For now, as Suri Cruise grows older, reporters claim that we will see a steady price drop until she reaches two or three years of age. Oh good, then Suri can finally come out of hiding.

Until that time, I say back off, or at least consider spending the 5 million in a little more sane situation.

  • 5 million dollars could feed 7000 impovershed children for an entire year.
  • 5 million dollars can also pay for the photo shoot of one celebrity baby.
All babies look the same, like it or not.

As you all probably know by now, the pictures have been published by Vanity Fair and Tom Cruise asked for no money at all for them. This is really nice.

Like Brad Pitt said - they get houded so often from the press and this was a way of kind of controlling the papparazi, and giving something to children who have nothing. Because of this, they are slightly less hounded than Suri more than likely as the world has already seen Shiloh. Good on Tom and Katie for keeping their privacy, but at what cost to their safety? Look what happened to Princess Di, Id hate to see some thing like that happen again to anyone.

ITA with you, not everyone wants to sell their babies on magazine covers, whether it goes to charity or not. Leave these to alone.

At least Jolie and Pitt gave the money they received for their baby picture to charities that will help other children.
