The Swiffer Wet Jet Vs. The Orange Glow Mopping System

A Product Review

I have always hated traditional mops. They smell, new heads cost too much, and when combined with their necessary buckets, they are hard to store. One day I decided enough was enough and set out to find a new mopping system.

First, I asked my family and friends what they used. Most told me that they felt stuck with their old mop and had never thought of changing. Thanks guys - big help. My mother told me she used the Swiffer Wet Jet system and had used it since it had first hit the market. She loved it for her linoleum floor and loved how she could just throw away the dirty cloth when she was done. In fact, she told me it was as easy as paper towels or disposable cleaning cloths.

This got me thinking. Sure, I love using disposable cleaning cloths and I keep a package of them in every room of the house for quick clean up, but did I really want to continue the tradition of using a paper product and throwing it away? My family was already dependent on paper towels, paper napkins, tissues, and the aforementioned cleaning cloths, so I didn't want to continue what had already become a vicious cycle.

I went to the box store and wandered the endless isles of cleaning products. I was overwhelmed, armed with $20, and determined to say goodbye to my smelly mop and bucket. I wandered over to the Swiffer Wet Jet and started reading the back of the box. It turns out; this product wasn't for me at all. The Wet Jet worked well for my mother because she has linoleum floors in her kitchen and hallways, however; my cabin in the woods has wall-to-wall hard wood floors. The Wet Jet said right on the back of the box that it wasn't recommended for hard wood floors, as some of the cleaning agents could strip the floor's sealant. While I was reading the back of the box a kind man approached me and gave me his advice - and I was glad to take it! He told me that he had tried the Swiffer Wet Jet system on his hardwood floors and found that the disposable cloths ripped on the jagged portions of his floor. This didn't sound good! I asked him what he used and he pointed me to the Orange Glow mopping system.

This was the product for me. The Orange Glow mopping system comes with a full bottle of cleaner that is specifically formulated to clean and shine hardwood floors. The mop came with a heavy duty mop head that was both reusable and washable which fit my want for a non-disposable system. I thanked my fellow shopper and purchased the Orange Glow mopping system.

I was eager to mop as soon as I got home. Yes, you heard me, I was eager to clean my house. The mop came in pieces but was really easy to assemble, and the reusable mopping cloth attached firmly to the mop's head. The mops instructions recommended using the cleaning product it came with once per month and to use a product such as a generic pine cleaner for interim touch ups.

I have used the Orange Glow mopping system for over a month now, and I recommend it for anyone with hardwood floors. It wasn't that the Swiffer Wet Jet was a bad product, indeed, it continues to work well for my mother and I would recommend it for anyone with linoleum floors. However; if you have hardwood floors than I encourage you to give the Orange Glow mopping system a try. It retails for under $20 and can clean your floors without the smelly residue associated with the traditional mop and bucket system.
