The Swine Flu Vaccine: My Concerns

Cameron Taylor
The controversy over the H1N1 vaccine continues. Is it safe? Has it really been tested enough? People in Canada, Europe and the United States are questioning the safety of the H1N1 vaccine. Further, because of the way flu viruses mutate, no one can say with absolute certainty this vaccine will be effective.

The FDA authorized an expedited approval for this vaccine and the manufacturer of this vaccine, GlaxoSmithKline, has stated more human testing is required. If vaccines are safe, why were vaccine contractors given legal immunity? Vaccines do have side effects. We saw devastating side effects in 1976 with that swine flu vaccine. With the executive order signed by the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Resources not only are the drug companies protected with immunity, they also have no real incentive for making a safe product. This is a $7 billion dollar a year business and these manufacturers have lobbyists in Washington working for mandatory vaccines so they can make more money.

In a three month study, CBS News reports that if you were diagnosed "probable" or "presumed" with the H1N1 virus, chances are you didn't have it at all! In late July the CDC advised against individual testing for the H1N1 virus. Their reasoning was that since the government had already declared an epidemic, why waste the resources testing for individual cases.

I plan to continue to strengthen my immune system and forego the H1N1 flu vaccination.
