The Swing

Cheryl Williams
I remember when she was just a little girl and how she used to soar;

The swing would carry her up the clouds

as she cried, "Higher, mommy -- more!"

I'd stand behind her and push her hard,

and her giggles would make me smile.

Now nothing is left but an empty swing;

I haven't seen her in awhile.

Years have passed since those days;

My baby is now all grown.

She doesn't need me like she did before --

How I wish she would still come home.

Her time is now spent with lovers and fools

as she tries to find her way.

Oh, how I wish I could hold her close

and tell her it will be okay.

But here I am watching an empty swing

gently move to and fro,

Nothing but the breeze to push it along,

I miss my baby so -- ..
