The Tales of Spider-Monkey: Spider-Monkey Turns...

Laura Frost
Once upon a time in a far away jungle there lived a very clever monkey and do you know what his name is?
His name was Spider-Monkey.
Even though Spider-Monkey was so very smart he had one tiny flaw... he was very forgetful.
He forgot where he put his glasses down, where his banana boat shoes were and even his wife's birthday! Today was a different story though because he forgot how old he was going to be.
"Spider-Monkey!" called out Lady Spider-Monkey
"Yes, yes dear!" Spider Monkey answered, running up the banana shaped stairs leading toward his house.
"I need you to go to the store."
"Why oh why do I have to go to the store it's my birthday?" he argued, pouting a little bit.
"Because dear, you can't remember how old you are!"
"Are you saying because I can't remember how I am, I can't stay for the decorating."
"That's right."
"Oh doops!" Spider-Monkey said, throwing his hands in the air.
"I want you to get milk, bread, juice and three banana's from the store. You must only get these six things. You have to bring all six back home, it's very important."
"Only six?"
"Yes," Lady answered as Spider-Monkey walked toward the door. "and dear..." she called out.
"You can't any of the banana's." she shook her finger at him and smiled.
"Oh doops! I can't get away with anything around here, don't do this, don't do that. Blah Blah Blah!" said Spider-Monkey as he marched out of the house stomping his feet.
Three hours later, the banana shaped house was decorated with banana balloons, banana shaped streamers, banana shaped plates and of course a banana shaped cake.
Spider-Monkey who had not made it back from the store yet had trouble keeping up with the six items Lady had asked for. He thought about leaving one or two behind but then thought about what Lady said.
"You must bring all six back home." he repeated in his head.
"Hey there Spider-Monkey, Happy Birthday!" cheered Bubbles the bear.
"Hey Bubbles. Thank you. How do you do?"
"I'm great! Heading over to your house right now, care if I walk with you?"
"No, I would enjoy the company actually."
After several minutes of walking, Spider-Monkey stopped.
"Hey Bubbles, do you know how old I am today?"
Bubbles did something with his fingers that Spider-Monkey would have to guess was counting.
"Gee... I don't think I do. You don't know how old you are?"
"No. I keep forgetting. Every single year, I turn one year older than the last and I can't remember how old I am!" said Spider-Monkey, irritated.
"Maybe Lady knows." Bubbles suggested.
"I know she knows, she won't tell me." Spider-Monkey said.
Guests were all hidden around the house when Bubbles and Spider-Monkey showed up late for the party. The house was dark when Spider-Monkey pushed open the door and screamed like a little girl when four figures stood up and shouted "Happy Birthday!"
Lady held a banner that said the very same thing, while Lula the lioness, Fred the frog and Millie the muskrat all welcomed Spider Monkey and Bubbles inside.
Spider Monkey looked around at the table and noticed something very common about the amount of candles set on his cake, the napkins, plates and cups were also set in the same amount. Spider Monkey continued to look around where he found the same amount of balloons, streamers and even banana shaped gift-bags. He looked to his hands, he counted each item slowly and then each candle, and then each balloon and finally each guest, including himself.
"1...2...3...4...5........6!" Spider-Monkey counted.
"I'm six years old!"
All the guests started cheering while Lady took the items she asked for from Spider-Monkey and kissed on the cheek.
Moments later, Millie the muskrat, Lula the lioness, Fred the Frog, Bubbles the bear, Lady and Spider Monkey sat around eating cake until someone very grumpy approached the door.
"Open up! I know you are in there!" this grumpy voice demanded.
Spider Monkey ran over to the door and swung it wide open.
"Grumpy Lion it's so nice to see you."
"Spider-Monkey! This is your 6th birthday party and you didn't invite me."
"I am sure we invited you Grumpy, maybe the invitation got lost in the mail."
"No. I think you just didn't invite me!" he said grumpily.
"Grumpy Lion, would you like to come in for some cake and ice cream?"
"It depends. What kind do you have?" he said even more grumpily than before.
"Banana cake and banana ice cream." Spider Monkey said smiling very widely.
"Bananas...ooohhh! I hate banana's!!" shouted Grumpy lion as he ran off back toward his den between Lula and Millie's house.
All six began laughing so hard that Bubbles fell out of his chair and ended up wearing his ice cream on his head.
"Now this is what I call a party." he said, licking the ice cream up with one swift tongue swipe.

The End!
