"The Talk" Takes on Marie Claire Blogger

A new talk show on CBS called "The Talk" takes on Marie Claire blogger Maura Kelly. "The Talk" is a talk show on CBS that tackles women issues. It stars Julie Chen, Sharon Osbourne, Sara Gilbert, and Leah Remini. Today the women discussed a blog post on the Marie Claire website, written by Maura Kelly. The post is titled "Should Fatties Get a Room? (Even on TV?)

The women on "The Talk" are mortified by the post and I was equally mortified by it. The writer is discussing the new comedy on CBS "Mike and Molly." She states in part "So anyway, yes, I think I'd be grossed out if I had to watch two characters with rolls and rolls of fat kissing each other ... because I'd be grossed out if I had to watch them doing anything. To be brutally honest, even in real life, I find it aesthetically displeasing to watch a very, very fat person simply walk across a room - just like I'd find it distressing if I saw a very drunk person stumbling across a bar or a heroine addict slumping in a chair."

This part is just so crazy, it does not matter what you think about overweight people to say they are as displeasing as a drunk or a heroine addict is simply, to put it mildly, the craziest thing I have ever heard.

An obese person is not going to cause a call wreck and kill innocent people, because they are overweight, like a drunk who gets behind the wheel may. An obese person is not going to kill someone or give it to your child like a heroine addict may.

It is pathetic that we judge people based on their weight, skin color, etc. We are humans and like the women on The Talk said, we all deserve to be loved. Since the writer was talking about the show "Mike and Molly" the simple fix to anyone who finds a problem with them kissing or being in bed or whatever is to not watch the show.

But the most disturbing thing about the fact of this specific blogger publishing this article is the fact that Marie Claire is a woman's magazine. Do they think only thin women read this magazine? Do they realize how many reader's they offended? Do they even care?

The writer later apologized, however I feel the damage to Marie Claire has already been done. She states in her apology "To that point (and on a more personal level), a few commenters and one of my friends mentioned that my extreme reaction might have grown out of my own body issues, my history as an anorexic, and my life-long obsession with being thin. As I mentioned in the ongoing dialogue we've been carrying on in the comments section, I think that's an accurate insight."

I do not except that, if she has a weight issue that should make her more understanding to someone else. It does not matter if one issue is being to skinny and the other is being too heavy. A weight issue in either shape or form is still a weight issue. Where is the compassion she should have considering she claims to have weight issues? She should defiantly be able to understand that it is something not easy to get a hold of.

What do the writer and Marie Claire think may be the effects of this post on over weight kids who read this dribble? Or did they even consider that? A kid who is over weight reads this and they see the part "I find it aesthetically displeasing to watch a very, very fat person simply walk across a room." The poor kid who reads this will be even more hurt and ashamed of themselves than they were before; by the way society treats over weight people. Marie Claire has now allowed their blogger to put more heartache and shame on people. Who knows what damage it may cause to individual people who read this?

I am glad I watched "The Talk" today, I am glad the women on "The Talk" were as mortified as I was. I think the writer should not be grossed out by overweight people; she should be grossed out by what she posted.
