The first part of the show this week was a lot of fun. We were able to see the reactions of the friends and families when the contestants made their appearances. The excitement and anticipation on both sides was contagious and the reaction brought tears to my eyes. The contestants have been through a lot the last 8 weeks and deserved their moments to shine. They all looked great and confidence radiated from them. The smiles were huge and the waists were smaller.
I was very disappointed in Austin's so-called friends. I understand that they wanted to celebrate Austin's 21st birthday with him but talk about unsupportive. Sure, he can resist the horrible bowling alley food and not eat it. But to get a chocolate cheesecake and try to get him to eat it just to see if he will be tempted is something that I just can't understand. I know that if I were to go onto the Biggest Loser, or any other kind of serious weigh loss journey, my friends and family would do anything they could to support me. Sure there would be family functions with bad food and temptations, but if we were celebrating my birthday they would do everything they could to keep temptation away from me. Were Austin's friends just not thinking or did the producers have something to do with it? Thankfully Austin resisted all of the temptations, I am so proud of him.
Allison let the contestants know that when they returned from their trip home that they would all be competing in a 5k. Not only did they need to resist temptation and get their workouts in but while catching up with their family and friends they had to find time to train for the 5k. Hopefully they found that time because the "reward" is the same as the first challenge; they are choosing their trainers, individually. The contestants will chose in the order that they finish the 5k, just like the first time.
The first five people to finish were all from the Red Team, only Marci and Olivia from the Black Team were guaranteed a choice in trainers. Sarah was the only person who didn't seem to want to choose between the trainers, it wasn't until her and Arthur were the only two contestants left in the challenge that she decided that she didn't want to come in last. Arthur was running and pushing himself but Sarah came back from behind and beat him. Arthur finished the 5k soon after, a great accomplishment but he was disappointed that he would not get a choice on what team he would be on.
As the weigh-in started the contestants revealed their choices. Justin, Rulon and Kaylee chose to stay on the Red Team and continue training with Brett and Cara. Jen decided to go back the Black Team. Austin, Moses and Ken stuck with the Red Team; Marci, Olivia, Hannah, Irene, Courtney stuck with the Black Team. That left Sarah and Arthur. Would Sarah go back to the Red Team and let Arthur stay with the Black Team or would she continue with the Black Team and have a better chance at staying on the ranch?
Sarah chose to stay with Bob and Jillian, she said that it was to get out of her comfort zone but it's obvious that she did it to save herself. That meant that Arthur was forced to join the Red Team, a scary thing not just for the competition but for his life. It felt like Bob, Jillian and Arthur were just figuring out how to get good numbers for Arthur, could Brett and Cara figure it out? Would he even get a chance to work out with them or would he be sent home the first night on their team? If the Red Team loses and Arthur does not get the highest percentage of weight loss on the team it is pretty much a guarantee that he will be sent home. For once I am hoping that the Red Team wins the weigh-in.
Jen was the first to weigh-in, she lost 14 pounds after two weeks at home, which is great, but coming off a 2 pound gain she was bound to get a good number. Irene was next and lost an impressive 10 pounds at home. Hannah felt confident going on the scale and she was right to be, she lost 11 pounds. Olivia lost 12 pounds and finally got out of the 200s! Courtney continued the double digit trend losing 10 pounds. Marci is getting so small and coming off a 1 pound gain so I expected a decent number this week, I should have remembered that this is Marci and she always amazes me, she lost 14 pounds! She is down to 167 pounds! She is so close to her goal weight that pulling a 14 is remarkable! Marci couldn't feel happy about her loss; she was too worried about Arthur. Sarah was the last to weigh-in and got out of the 200s as well losing 10 pounds. Now Courtney is the only member of the Black Team over 200 pounds.
The Black Team lost a total of 81 pounds, the Red Team needed to lose more than 120 pounds, that's a little more than 17 pounds each. As soon as Allison said that I was sure Arthur was going home tonight. Rulon was up first, he lost 17 pounds, good number for two weeks at home and good for the team. Austin was next, he lost 10 pounds, not a great number for the team, but at least he lost and didn't give in to all the temptation. Ken had a tougher time at home; he only lost 5 pounds the two weeks he was home. Things were looking bleak for Arthur. Moses was up next and he has always brought big numbers, this week he shocked us all by only losing 5 pounds. My heart sank even further into my stomach. Kaylee only lost 1 pound and was so disappointed. It was obvious her and her father had a tough time at home; at least they didn't gain any weight though. Justin lost 8 pounds, another surprise, not as much as I expected. The only hope that Arthur had now was to lose a higher percentage than the rest of the team. Arthur needed to lose at least 19 pounds, could he do it? Was he disciplined enough at home?
Crap. Arthur only lost 16 pounds, still a good number for two weeks at home but not enough to keep him safe. I was sick to my stomach knowing that he would be sent home when he needed to be there so much more than most of the others. While he was proud to be less than 400 pounds Bob and Jillian were extremely upset. They both yelled and screamed begging the contestants to make the right decision and think about Arthur's need to be on the ranch above the game and alliances.
It has been no secret that, other than Moses and Kaylee, I have not been a fan of the Red Team. Rulon and Justin act like they care but I don't see them voting off anyone else, no matter how hard they say the decision is. I would be extremely shocked if they kept Arthur, but I could help but hold out hope. I shouldn't have wasted any of my time hoping, the Red Team showed once again that they were all about the game, even Kaylee and Moses. I had never been more disappointed in this show. Arthur is so far from being okay and still needs to be on the ranch, no matter how much confidence he has going home. The update shows that Arthur has lost another 45 pounds since leaving the ranch. While that is great I know it would be so much more if he would have stayed.
Next week the focus seems to be on the inner strength of contestants. While I enjoy most breakthroughs I am afraid that I will still be too jaded to enjoy listening to any of the Red Team's stories. It will be interesting to see what kind of challenges the contestants face; the Black Team is so small that physical challenges will probably be quick wins for the Red Team. Let's see what twists the producers throw at us next week!
