The Use of Technology in Schools

Embrace It, Don't Ban It

Carly Love
Schools are attempting to ban the use of technology in class by students. From cellular telephones to Mp3 players to laptop computers, schools disapprove of students using technology. These technologic advances are a part of todays society and are not going anywhere anytime soon.

Technology is the present and the future of America. Schools are supposed to help students plan for the future, but the ban on technology in class is doing the opposite. Schools should embrace these items and teach studends how to be resourceful when using them.

Cellular telephones have calculators and some of the new "smart phones" have internet access. Students use calculators and do research online everyday. Teachers encourage students to do so. Allowing and teaching students to use their personal technology to acheive in school is the right thing to do. Is it not ironic how students are encouraged to use calculators and the internet to do school work, but at the same time are discouraged to do so?

Schools are contradicting themselves everyday. It is immoral to tell students to use their resources, but then to punish them for doing so. Students are going to graduate from school being confused. They will not know if it is acceptable to use technology to do well in school or not. No school official has the right to deny students the right to use their technologic resources to do well. Schools should embrace technology, not ban it.

Technology is the future, and that will not change.
