The Ten Best Bible Verses to Use for Christmas Cards

Frances Hoelsema
Whether you make your own Christmas cards or you have Christmas cards that don't have a Bible verse written on them, and you are looking for the perfect Bible verse to include with your holiday message, this article lists the ten best Bible verses to use for such an occasion. Some passages included are a given while a few of them are a bit more unique, but just as good. I'm confident that as you read through these ten Bible verses that you will find the perfect one that you will want to use this year on your Christmas cards. For reference, all of the following verses are taken out of the New King James Version of the Holy Bible.

1. Luke 2:11 - "For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."

As everybody knows, Christmas is the day that we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This Bible verse is a verse that is used quite often as it clearly states that today is the day that our Lord is born! It's a verse of joy and hope for sure.

2. Isaiah 9:6 - "For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

When it comes to Jesus, He was the long-awaited Child that God's people were expecting. Here in Isaiah he gives a prophecy of the future Son that is to come into the world and all that He would be to His people. On Christmas day we celebrate that Child being born, that Son being given, and now He is our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace.

3. Micah 5:2 - "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting."

This passage is another Biblical prophecy that came true on what we call Christmas day. Bethlehem is where our Savior was born, the One who is the Ruler and from of old. You'll soon see that there are quite a few Biblical prophecies that work well with Christmas cards.

4. Luke 2:13, 14 - "And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!""

This Bible verse is one of my favorites to use around Christmas time as it is full of joy, happiness and praise. The night of Christ's birth brought about many that gave glory to God for the birth of His Son, Jesus. Many of our Christmas songs bear the message of glory to God in the highest as well. This Bible verse will for sure light up the face of the one it is sent to.

5. Matthew 1:21 - "And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins."

This Bible verse is when an angel had appeared to Joseph in a dream declaring who the Child was inside Mary's womb. It bears the bright image of the Son that will be brought forth and His mission. The Baby's name is revealed as well in this passage. This Bible verse reminds us of our Savior, which is fitting for the Christmas season.

6. Isaiah 7:14 - "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel."

Although this verse is quite like the previous one, it is still unique to use in and of itself. This verse has the same meaning as Matthew 1:21, but yet a little different twist. Isaiah 7:14 reveals that the sign that was given to God's people for who the Savior would be is that of a virgin conceiving a Son. Also, do you know what Immanuel means? It means God with us! Sending a Christmas message with this verse reminds the reader of God's presence with us.

7. Luke 1:14 - "And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at His birth."

Even though this verse isn't a common one to use on a Christmas card, it is just as fitting as the rest. With this verse you not only get a little taste of the Christmas message, Jesus' birth, but you also get a taste of the emotions that come with that. If you're like me, Christmas produces joy and gladness in my heart. Christmas is a time to rejoice over the birth of our Savior!

8. Isaiah 11:1 - "There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots."

In case you aren't sure how this Bible verse fits into a Christmas card, let me explain. The Rod from the stem of Jesse and the Branch that will grow out of his roots is none other than Jesus! On Christmas day we celebrate the coming of our Savior, and it is on this day and in this season that we celebrate the Rod and Branch!

9. Luke 2:10 - "Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.""

By writing this verse on a Christmas card, it is almost as if you are the angel declaring the good news! Don't you like to be the bearer of good news? I know that I do. That is why this Bible passage is great to use for a Christmas card. You are simply declaring the good tidings of our Savior's birth.

10. John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."

I always like to be reminded of God's love and there is no better passage that reminds me of that than this one. God loved us so much that He sent His Son, His only Son. As mentioned before, Christmas time is all meant to remind us of the coming of His only Son. I encourage you to remind someone of God's love this holiday season by sending them a card with this passage on it.

As you can see, many passages listed were from Isaiah and Luke. Those two books of the Bible have a lot of reference to the meaning of Christmas, the coming of Christ. However, there are a lot of other options out there as well. If you do a little searching and get a little creative, you will see that there are tons of verses that can be used in one way or another to reflect some aspect of what Christmas is all about. There are passages that provide the whole Christmas story or there are these one and two verse passages that provide just a glimpse. This Christmas season I encourage you to find something meaningful to you to use for your cards, and if you still can't find just what you are looking for, then I surely hope that one of these passages will fit perfectly with what you are trying to say. Have a blessed Christmas season!
