The Ten Best "Door" Songs

After a co-worker saw my list of bands whose names appear in their songs, a co-worker mentioned one that I had failed to include. She said that I should have placed "Back Door Man" by the Doors in the list, since it was a better tune than any of the others.
I disagreed with her, but the suggestion did inspire me to generate another song list. Here is my list of the best song titles containing the word "Door." Note to co-worker mentioned above: once again the Doors failed to make the list.

10. "Back Door" by Kansas: It's surprising how, after 30 years, this pop number from Audio Visions sounds as if it were just released by Two Doors Down, Nickelback, or even Train.

9. "At My Front Door" by Nillsson: One of the rockier tracks from Son of Schmillsson, the song has all the fun and energy as the rest of the album.

8. "Open the Door, Homer" by Bob Dylan and the Band: This is one of the tracks from the legendary Basement Tapes, which reveals the too-often concealed playfulness of Dylan.

7. "Lookin' Out My Back Door" by Creedence Clearwater Revival: My favorite song of CCR has a twangy country rhythm and stream of consciousness lyrics, such as "Statues wearing high heels" and "Dinosaur Victrola singing to Buck Owens."

6. "Let My Love Open the Door" by Pete Townshend: This is the biggest solo hit for The Who's main songwriter, a legend not really known for penning love songs. In fact, the title seems out of place on the powerful but sober Empty Glass album.

5. "Door Into Summer" by The Monkees: This catchy Mike Nesmith tune from Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn and Jones is not one of the better-known songs from the group, but its steady rhythm and sing-along bridge rank it among the best.

"Outdoor Type" by The Lemonheads: Even though band leader Evan Dando did not write this song from Car Button Cloth, his delivery works well with lyrics about a guy who hates to camp, ride, hike or anything else outdoorsy. My favorite line is "I can't go away with you on a mountain-climbing weekend, What if something's on TV and it's never shown again?"

3. "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" by Bob Dylan: One of Dylan's best-known songs has been covered hundreds of times by artists from Guns n' Roses to Eric Clapton to the Vitamin string Quartet.

2. "Behind Closed Doors" by Charlie Rich: The Silver Fox topped the charts with this pop-country story of adultery.
