The Ten Best Tarheel Basketball Players of the New Millennium

With a history like none other, The University of North Carolina has produced a number of great basketball players over the years. It seems the team is loaded with All-Americans year after year. With the NCAA tournament approaching and with the Tarheels in place to make another great run in it, this serves as a great time to look at the greatest players in UNC history.

Sean May- This center followed in his dad's followed in his dad's footsteps by winning the national championship in 2005. Sean May was a dedicated player who worked hard to condition himself to play in Roy Williams fast pace lineup. May's great inside play carried the Tarheels to victory in 2005. He has struggled with injuries in the NBA, but Sean May was a great collegiate player.

Tyler Hansbrough- Tyler Hansbrough is simply the hardest working player in North Carolina history. He is not the most talented buy nor the most athletic, he simply out works everyone else on the court. As only a Junior he has already broken a number of Tarheel records. About the only thing he has yet to accomplish is winning a national championship.

Raymond Felton- Raymond Felton was a key part of North Carolina's run to a national championship in 2005. He ran Roy Williams offense with perfection. His speed helped the 2005 team to become one of the highest scoring teams in history. Felton will forever be mentioned in the same breath as the great Phil Ford.

Jerry Stackhouse- Stackhouse is perhaps the most athletic player to play in a tarheel uniform. His explosive jumping ability made him a delight to watch. Although he never won a championship, Stackhouse has to be near to top of any list like this.

Rashad Wallace- What makes Rashad Wallace so great was his ability to shoot the basketball. You expect a guy with his size to be able to play down low, but his ability to shoot the basketball for his size was great.

Ty Lawson- Simply put, the fastest player to ever wear Carolina Blue. Lawson is a talented point guard who still has time to get even better. He can take the ball the length of the court in a matter of seconds and has a great outside shot.

Rashad McCants- Another part of the 2005 championship team, Rashad McCants was a joy to watch as a junior at UNC. Once he got his personal issues together, he grew into a solid scorer for Roy Williams. This is a guy who could shoot the outside shot, or take you to the hoop.

Brandon Wright- Brandon only played one year at Carolina, but it was a great one. One can only imagine what this years team would be like with him. His ability to score down low and block shots, made him a pleasure to watch.

Marvin Williams- Another 'one and done' player, Marvin Williams made the most of his one year at Carolina. His contributions off the bench help the 2005 team win it all. Marvin could play in the post and knock down the open jump shot.

Wayne Ellington- One of the great shooters in Carolina history, Ellington has demonstrated a great ability to score. With two years left he has the ability to be near the top of this list in a couple of years.
