The Ten Best & Worst Cocktails for Weight Loss

Are You Drinking More Calories Than You Eat?

Next time you order that second or third cocktail, you may want to consider your waistline. Some of the more common cocktails weigh in with more calories than a fast food cheeseburger.

Among the highest in calories, the Mai Tai cocktail serves up a whopping 310 calories at a mere 4.5 ounces. The equivalent amount of a cola-flavored soda would only be about 70 calories. Right up there with 270 calories for only 3.5 ounces is the White Russian. The Black Russian tops out at 250 calories.

If you crave that wonderful coconut concoction - the pina colada - perhaps you might want to downsize. Only 4.5 ounces (about the equivalent in volumne of about one third of a can of soda) packs on 260 calories - that's more calories than you'd get in a fast food order of small fries.

For those who like their orange juice, the ageless screwdriver falls in the middle of the pack. For 7 ounces, you only consume 175 calories. Keep in mind, that cola flavored non-diet soda only packs 80 calories per 6 ounces.

On the other end of the spectrum, the nicest to your waistline the bourbon & soda. Four ounces offers up a mere 105 calories, which is still considerably more than that non-diet soft drink, but less than those fries. Daiquiris, small ones at 2 ounces, serve up 110 calories.

For those with the taste of tomato, the Bloody Mary at 5 ounces is a better choice at about 116 calories.

Gin Rickeys for a whopping 7 ounces weighs in at 115 calories. If you like gin, this is the best choice calorie per ounce. Bacardi rum rounds out the bottom
