The Ten Greatest Archers

In most action movies today you see scene after scene of people shooting guns at each other. Guns are definitely cool, especially when they lead to huge explosions but I find guns to also be kind of cheap. Who can't kill somebody with a gun? Unless you're a sniper picking someone off from 100 yards away, shooting someone with a gun is no challenge. I've always been a bigger fan of the bow and arrow. It takes skill to be an archer. So I decided I would come up with the ten best archers of all time.

10. Chewbacca - Honestly I can't remember any scenes where Chewbacca actually used his crossbow but he had one so I assume he used it at some point. It doesn't really matter if Chewie did use the crossbow or not though since he could just rip off your arms and beat you with them.

9. Gizmo - The one and only Gizmo from the Gremlins movie. If you recall, at the end of the first Gremlins movie Billy is about to be killed by the Gremlins leader Stripe, even though that sissy punk Billy was like 7 feet tall and stripe was like a foot tall. It was up to Gizmo to save the day as he tied his Rambo bandana around his forehead, pulled out his bow and saved that wimp Billy.

8. Rambo - Rambo had guns, lots and lots of guns. Every once in a while though Rambo would pull out his bow and arrow for fun, that and to add insult to injury. "Yo, not only am I going to kill 3,425,214 of you by myself, but I won't even use a gun." Plus he did teach Gizmo how to be an archer so he gets bonus points for that.

7. Susan Pevensie - Susan Pevensie is the older of the Pevensie sisters in the Chronicles of Narnia. Given a bow and arrow and by Father Christmas Susan is often seen as the smartest and most cautious of all the siblings.

6. Legolas - Legolas is everybody's favorite elf. Legolas is a one man fighting machine who can perform outstanding stunts in battle. Legolas can even take down an Oliphaunt all by himself.

5. Hawkeye - Hawkeye is a comic book character from Marvel Comics and long time member of the Avengers. I've always been a big fan of Hawkeye because he's the one guy who will actually get in Captain America's face while everybody else is busy kissing his butt.

4. Green Arrow - A lot of times in comic books writers will borrow ideas from other writers. I don't know if Hawkeye is borrowed from DC Comics' Green Arrow or not but it sure seems like it. Like Hawkeye, Green Arrow isn't afraid to stand up to the guys that most other people won't stand up to like Superman and Batman. Plus you have to be a tough guy to have the name Oliver Queen and not get picked on all the time.

3. Sorsha - Sorsha is the daughter of the evil Queen Bavmorda in the movie Willow. Although she eventually switches sides and joins Madmartigan and Willow. As a young boy Sorsha was one of my first loves, how could you not like a girl who was an excellent archer but also had that flaming red hair?

2. Link - The hero of the Zelda video games is a video game legend. Link is most well known for wielding a sword but he's capable of fighting with any kind of weapon, a boomerang, bombs, or yes, even a bow and arrow. Link has had many games dedicated to him and is probably the second most recognizable video game character after Mario.

1. Robin Hood - Was there ever any doubt? You can't have an archer list without Robin Hood being number one. Without Robin Hood archery never would've been cool and none of these other characters would've mattered. Robin Hood also probably did more good than any of the others on the list thanks to his "steal from the rich, give to the poor" attitude.

    What about William Tell?

That was great! I'm sort of a nerd, and whenever I play any RPG I like using a bow and arrow. Way cooler than melee fighting. Way cooler.

That's terrific. I have to show this article to my best friend, she's practically in love with bows.
