The Things Cheaters Will Say

Cheryl Williams
Cheaters are everywhere. We live with them. We love them. We go to church with them. We are friends with them. They deceive the best of us. Cheaters deceive the person they are in a committed relationship with. Many times they cheat the person they are cheating with by altering the facts of their primary relationship.

As crafty as most cheaters believe themselves to be, they can still be identified by certain things they may say. Here are a few key phrases to look for if you suspect a person is a cheater:

1)I have to work late tonight. This is easier for some cheaters to get by with than others. It depends a lot on the type of job the person has. If the person has a job that makes it easy for you to go and visit the person, chances are this is not an excuse the person will use. If the person has a job, however, that involves a bit of mobility...such as a sales job, this is a very common excuse.

2)I want to lose weight. Getting healthy is a good thing. If, however, your significant other is a couch potato who has never shown an interest in health and fitness, this could be a warning flag that something is going on. Many times, if someone is going to start cheating, he will begin paying more attention to his looks. A cheater might begin working out and watching what he eats.

3)My spouse doesn't have sex with me anymore. This is one of the excuses a cheater will often use in an attempt to gain pity and attract a willing partner. This one is most often used by men. Women are more prone to say "My spouse doesn't show me affection anymore."

4)You don't love me anymore. A person who wants to cheat will say this whenever there is a conflict within the relationship. This is done as a means of avoiding taking responsibility for his actions and placing the blame on his partner.

5)I was drunk. Oh yes, the proverbial drunk excuse. What better way to excuse bad behavior than to make it sound as if you had no control over what you were doing?

6)Don't call me...I'll call you. A cheater wants to be in control. Chances are you will not get a phone number or an address from the person. If you do get a number, it may come with a list of instructions such as when to call and when not to call. You may be told not to leave a message as well.

7)I like to stay in where it's nice and cozy. Cheaters don't usually want to get caught. Therefore, they are prone to keep all activities inside either a hotel or at your place. Cheaters will generally shy away from eating out at restaurants or going out in public.

8)Why are you looking at my cell phone? Cheaters guard their cell phones like gold at Fort Knox. There is too much incriminating evidence on them that can easily be found by a suspecting partner. Text messages, voice messages, pictures, missed calls, dialed calls and received calls are some of the ways that cheaters have been caught. Most recently Tiger Woods was caught when his wife Elin discovered a text by one of his mistresses. If your partner has nothing to hide, your partner will not get upset if you are looking at his cell phone.

9)I am in an open relationship. The cheater that uses this excuse to play around is saying "I'm in a relationship, but I have permission to be with other people."

10) My partner is screwing around on me and we all but finished anyway. Cheaters are notorious for placing the blame on someone else. There is always a reason or an excuse used to justify their behavior. Sometimes they use the excuses to justify it to others and sometimes they use the excuses to justify it to themselves.

11) She/he is just a friend. Cheaters will use this excuse especially when a real friendship has turned into a full-fledged affair. Sometimes the affair may be emotional and the cheater will be deceived into believing it is not really an affair because no physical contact has occurred.

12)It was a wrong number. If a cheater gets a phone call from someone he is cheating with, not only will he act flustered, he will pretend it was a wrong number. Sally remembers the day her husband answered a call. He got so flustered when he answered, he hit the speakerphone rather than the off button. As a result, Sally heard a woman's voice calling him "Sweetie."

13)The credit card bill must be a mistake. Some cheaters are ignorant enough to use their credit cards to buy jewelry or something special for the person they are cheating with. If their significant other opens the bill, the cheater will pretend it is a mistake or pretend it is a gift yet to be given to the significant other.

14)It wasn't me. This is the first thing most cheaters will say if someone says they were seen with someone else.

15)My friend gave it to me. Cheaters will use this excuse to explain small gifts a lover may give.

These are such underhanded excuses that you mentioned, Cheryl. How do cheaters think they will be able to get away with what they are doing?
