The Thinking Place

Donna Cavanagh
Although the air can make me shiver
And the water now shows its tempestuous side
I still love to sit on the sand for hours
Watching the waves ebb and flow with the changing tide

The fall wind can whip up the dunes
But the sand no longer burns my toes
I sit in my sweatshirt with the hood pulled tight
And watch the waves perform their magical show

Some people think the ocean is lonely
When the fall and winter descend upon the beach
But I think it is a place that offers only comfort
It allows me to bring my dreams into reach

We all need that thinking place
Where our minds can run free and wild
Where no rules govern how we think and feel
We can be guilty as sin or as innocent as a child

When we allow our minds to breathe
When we give them room to explore
We learn to let go of our self-imposed limitations
We open the windows and unlock the door

A deserted beach or a busy city street
It does not matter where your thinking place lies
It only matters that your heart gives your imagination room
To shoot for the stars and aim for the skies
