Kyle XY: Third & Final Season - Suspense, Drama, Mystery, and a Side Order of Sex for Teens

The Third & Final Season of Kyle XY, starring Matt Dallas, Jaimie Alexander, Hal Ozsan, Marguerite MacIntyre, Bruce Thomas, Chris Olivero and Kirsten Prout begins with the cliffhanger ending of season two. Jessi (Jaimie Alexander) is about to leave with her newfound mother Sarah (Ally Sheedy) and Kyle (Matt Dallas) has just discovered his sweetheart Amanda (Kirsten Prout) has disappeared from the prom. Amanda's disappearance takes Kyle straight into the heart of the Latnok Society where Amanda has been drugged and implant with a memory blocker so she will have no memory of her abduction.

Meanwhile, Jessi feels something is wrong with Kyle and leaves her mother in the parking lot, telling her she has to check on Kyle but will be back soon. At Latnok, Kyle meets Michael Cassidy (Hal Ozsan) who becomes Kyle's nemesis for season three. With Jessi's help, Kyle rescues Amanda, but when Jessi returns home, Sarah is gone with only a note left saying she has decided to go on without Jessi.

Things get complicated when Jessi moves in with the Tragers, and Kyle and Jessi start working wit the Latnok college students in an effort to learn more about the agency. While Jessi's bond with Kyle grows deeper, Kyle discovers Latnok's plot to create multiple clones of Kyle with much of the work done by college students who are unaware their separate project are part of a much bigger, more devious plan.

While the story line is interesting and it seems like there is less focus on teen sex than in season two, there is still an unfortunate side story involving Josh Trager (Jean-Luc Bilodeau) and his girlfriend Andy Jensen (Magda Apanowicz) who do have sex after Josh's father suggests he not have sex but then gives him a condom.

I am glad I watched Kyle XY, Season II last year before I watched The Secret Life of the American Teenager Season One so I was adequately shocked by the promiscuity on Kyle XY. After watching The Secret Life of the American Teenager no teen shows seem as bad in comparison. This is a troubling commentary on how as these TV programs one up each other depicting teenage sexual promiscuity, they simultaneously lower our standards as well as out ability to be shocked. Would I have been more shocked by the teen sex in Kyle XY's Third Season had I not seen The Secret Life of the American Teenager a day before viewing Kyle XY? Probably.

The third season of Kyle XY ends with a cliffhanger, but in the Bonus Feature: Kyle XY: Future Revealed, viewers are given a look at what might have happened in future seasons of Kyle XY.

Although this program is rated 'TV-14-DLSV,' I think it is too mature for young teens and should be watched and discussed with a parent or guardian. The run time for Kyle XY: Third & Final Season is 560 minutes.

I agree that teen sex is an important issue, but these shows make abstinence look dork or impossible and handle the issue in one of two ways. 1. Parent yells at kid, "You are not having sex!" and then goes out and has an affair. 2. Parent hands kid condemn and says "wait until it feels right."

ABC Family is trying to be too many things at the same time. This show is stupid. Teen sex, as upsetting as it may be, is an important issue, but I don't think this show (or the other one mentioned) helps with the issue. At worst, it offends and, at best, it is a clunky storyline.

I tried watching this show once. I guess my kids might like it.
