Medication is the first thing many people think of when they are told they have an anxiety disorder. Prescription anxiety medicine is becoming more common and is something that you and your doctor will have to decide on. Prescription medications do not always work on the first try so be patient.
There is also natural remedies such as St. John's Wart. St. John's Wart has been credited for helping normalize many people's mental state and help with sleep. Also plenty of sleep and a diet high in vitamins and minerals may help relieve some of your anxiety Before trying any natural remedies you should consult your doctor and determine if the risks outweigh the benefits.
Another great option for people not wanting to take medication is to exercise. Yoga is a great way to relax and center yourself. Yoga makes you focus on your breathing and put everything else to the wayside. This wonderful technique can easily bring your anxiety level down. You can also try a good cardio workout. Getting your heart rate up releases endorphins which make you feel better.
Therapy is a choice for people with some of the worst anxiety issues. Therapy comes in different forms and can be extremely useful. For someone who is shy or just does not like discussing their problems in the open you should try individual therapy. The time you spend with a therapist is time to really try and get as much off your chest as possible.
For those who don't mind speaking within a group you can try group or talk therapy. This is also an option if you need to save a little money since group therapy tends to be a little less expensive than individual therapy. Remember that within a group therapy situation you are required to keep everything discussed within the group confidential.
So even though anxiety disorders are becoming more common so are the ways to deal with them. Medication, exercise, and therapy are some of the most common options for treatment of anxiety disorders. Now that you know some of your options you are ready to have an open discussion with your doctor.
