The Three Worst Things to Do on Your Lunch Hour

clarissa
Again, somehow, popular working culture has got us into routines that we think are OK, but really are not. There are several things you can do around lunch time that can really hinder your ability to reach your daily and weekly diet goals. And if this cycle continues, you'll find yourself unable to reach the goals that matter and that can really impact your life. What exactly is this cycle I am talking about? Here are the three worst things to do at lunch time.

Bond with your co workers as they faithfully order take out every day and eat it at their desks.

They do this at my job, and that's why I know just how this feels. You don't want to be sitting at work eating your bologna sandwich while your co workers chow down on Chinese and pizza from the Italian place down the street. But even though you don't want to chow down on your sandwich, you should know take out food is loaded with fat and calories. And all you're doing at your desk is sitting down, how are you possibly going to burn all that off?

Since you're sitting, you also need to ask yourself a very important question: Are you actually hungry in the first place? Seriously. You woke up at around 7:30 and ate a good breakfast. You sat at your desk at 9 and snacked on some pretzels from the vending machine. And three hours later, after a rigorous day of sitting at work, you've worked up a healthy 12-clock lunch time appetite right? Wrong. You just know that it's time to eat. Twelve o clocks is always time for lunch right? Not necessarily. That's why the third worse thing to do at lunch time is to...

Eat when you're not hungry.

Who cares if you aren't hungry right? Wrong. Eating when you are not hungry is one of the worst things you can do at lunch time while you're at work. It's a trap for gaining weight. And it gets you in the habit of eating when you are not hungry. Once you take that habit home, you're eating dinner when you are not hungry, snacking when you're not hungry and so on and so forth. Before you know it you've gained ten pounds by the end of the year.

Counting on the office party to provide for your lunch.

Just because the boss is having an office party today, doesn't mean you don't need to bring some real food with you. Don't be fooled. You can't survive through and eight hour day on chips and soda. You may think you're satisfying your hunger on pretzels and soda, but really all that sugar and carbs is just whetting your appetite for more sugar and carbs and before you know it, you've eaten a whole bag of chips and by dinner time you are hungrier than you ever thought possible.
