Not because he did not want too? But, because he has a rare disease that made him time travel immediately into thin air at ANYTIME in his life? This truly unique modern day love story based on the novel by Audrey Niffenegger is "absolutely incredible!" because it has all the right parts of love and romance between two people and NOT science fiction.
Gentle, lovable and sweet Henry DeTamble (Eric Bana) has a "rare genetic anomally" which causes him to suddenly disappear and time travel anywhere in time, which he has absolutely no control over. However, the "magical" part of this film and story is the fact that he always seems to end up with his lifetime companion "Clare" (Rachel McAdams).
Even at the age of six years old, Henry time travels and meets young Clare over and over again in a quiet meadow during the beautiful fall season, and somehow convinces her that he is a time traveler from the past and the future. Unfortunately, Henry can not travel in time with any clothes on?
Young Clare waits time after time for Henry to appear in the meadow brook, leaving him a set of clothes to wear each time he "magically appears" At this point and time of the film most film viewers are probably thinking? "This guy is a child molester? Wrong? The reason why is because Henry has seen his future and destiny in his life to be with this loved one called Clare until he finally dies.
Henry magically appears in Clare's teenage years, which she has waited for so many years? Not caring or thinking about any other male human being during her entire life span of 17 years old. Time traveler Henry has seen and participated in the future of him and Clare and knows they are destined to become lovers and best friends for life?
Some viewers and novel readers of this magical fantasy called "The Time Traveler's Wife" story could possibly think that Henry somehow convinced and seduced this young six year old child into believing that he will be her lifetime lover and friend for life? Clare seems to put up with the frustrations of him disappearing on a moments notice and finally marries Henry?
Henry "magically" appears at anytime during Clare's life?" Ironically, which she has become accustomed too over the years? Telling her that he has been with her during her six year old life, and the wonderful memories they experienced at her age. Comically, Henry gets Clare pregnant during his younger days before his vasectomy, which was a great part of this film!
Clare states "it's not like I was cheating on you!" She just wanted to have a child by Henry, no what the cost and pain in life? Henry finally realizes this was destiny in his life and Clare's life. The director of this film has simply achieved two warm hearts of how two people can go to the greatest lengths in life just because of their love for one another.
