The Timex Global Trainer with Built-in GPS: Sure to Be an Athlete's Best Friend

Summer is around the corner, and Spring weather has already made a huge impact on outdoor activities. With the change into the active seasons also comes a slew of new gadgets specifically designed and marketed for the outdoor enthusiast. Among those gadgets, are some fashionable, sporty, and very useful watches. New from Timex comes the latest in hi-tech gadgetry in watches; the Timex Ironman Global Trainer with built-in GPS Technology. Designed and built specifically to "conquer an Ironman Triathlon," and arriving in stores late Summer 2010, the watch will very likely be a must have for any aspiring athlete in training.

Dubbed as the "ultimate training tool," the new watch from Timex is the latest in the long line of Ironman timepieces to feature a rugged design, and precision features for a variety of outdoor activities. Setting it apart from its predecessors and the competition, the device contains some of the latest and unique technology to be worn on the wrist. Unlike other GPS training watches, which are actually GPS capable and require a link to a separate GPS receiver, the Global Trainer actually contains in inclusive GPS chip. With the integrated SiRFstarIII GPS technology, the unit is capable of measuring an athlete's pace, speed, distance, and more - all in real-time. A features such as this allows users to log and compare their data in order to measure, record, and improve upon their routine performances.

In addition to regular features found on a typical digital watch, the new watch from Timex is also reported to include a 4-way screen, meaning a screen that is easily divisible into four quadrants for displaying a variety of useful information at a glance, rather than having to cycle through numerous screens. Power users will also enjoy the watch's ability to collect and connect for information transfer purposes. Data collected on the watch, such as performance and travel data, can be downloaded for use with the TrainingPeaks training and nutrition online software platform.

Settings on the watch may be configured and adjusted via a connection to a Windows or Mac computer, and it also supports connection to other Timex devices such as heart rate monitors and bike sensors, as well as any third party ANT+ bike sensors. Last but not least, a feature distance trainers will surely appreciate, the Global Trainer also features a stated 15 hour battery that may be recharged via a computer's USB port, or with an AC adapter.
