The Top 10 Board Games that Should Be Movies

Have You Ever Said, "That Should Be a Movie!"?

Phillip Wachowiak
Have you ever thought that your favorite childhood (or adulthood) board game would make an awesome movie? This article lists the top ten boar games that would translate the best onto the big screen. Criteria include the game's creativity, the silliness factor of the idea of it as a movie, and the games ability to endure through time. Also included are honorable mentions.

1) Candyland

We've all played this childhood classic and been instantly hungry after moving our characters over pictures of gum drops and gingerbread. The question is, how? My guess is that it would be like some kind of Alice in Wonderland or Wizard of Oz type deal.

2) Chutes and Ladders

This would be a fun game to work with in Hollywood. The goal is to get to the top...before it's too late. On the way our hapless characters have to avoid chutes that drop them back spaces and aim for ladders which allow them to skip spaces.

3) Monopoly

Yes, the classic game about making money and financially outsmarting the other players. In reality this game is already kind of in movies but it would still be fun to see an entire movie based on monopoly.

4) Risk

The game of global domination. There would be some good action scenes with this game and who says it can't be themed with the Star Wars or Lord of the Rings versions?

5) Sorry

A game based on revenge is a game that's meant to be a movie. This could involve extensive plot twists and multiple back stabbings in order for one person to get all their "friends" home.

6) Clue

Well this idea was already taken and turned into a movie. You might want to check it out.

7) Life

What can I say? This could be a normal, feel good movie about the little things in life. Not too intricate and not too simple.

8) Trivia Pursuit

Think about this one, a trivia game with five categories. I don't know if much could be done with this one, except turn it into a game show and put it onto the big screen with a scandal thrown in for good measure.

9) Checkers

Such a simple game and yet it could be a good movie. The only goal of the game? Kill all of your opponent's checkers and "king" all of your own. Oh my, things could get violent.

10) Scrabble

This is the word game that has frustrated word geeks for years. I foresee a literary-themed movie that could involve something like National Treasure style detective work involving words.

Honorable Mention: Pay Day, Chess, Othello, and Chinese Checkers
